According to a joint report from research teams in the UK and American, the new generation of antipsychotic drugs only very marginally increase the risk of patients developing type 2 diabetes .
The researchers conducted meta-analysis on 11 different studies, and found that second-generation antipsychotic medication still increased diabetes risk by some 32%. However, the team pointed out that this is much less than older drugs.
Different medications for non-related conditions can strongly increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes . Patients who are unsure of how different medications interact with each other should contact their doctor or healthcare professional at once.
