According to recent health news, living healthily strongly reduces the risk of developing a chronic disease such as diabetes . Researchers indicate that those who lead a healthy life could lower disease risk by 80 per cent.
The researchers based their report on four key principles: regular exercise, keeping slim, eating healthily and never smoking. For those that followed these rules, there was found to be a 93 per cent lower likelihood of developing diabetes than those who adhered to none of the rules.
Other risks fell considerably, including heart attack, stroke and cancer development. To meet the criteria of the study respondents had to exercise for at least 3.5 hours per week, have a BMI lower than 30, eat a healthy diet and never take up smoking cigarettes.
Dr. Ford of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta reportedly commented: "Our results reinforce current public health recommendations to avoid smoking, to maintain a healthy weight, to engage in physical activity appropriately and to eat adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables and foods containing whole grains and to partake of red meat prudently. Because the roots of these factors often originate during the formative stages of life, it is especially important to start early in teaching the important lessons concerning healthy living.
