According to a study published in the journal of the Canadian Medical Association, long-term mortality rates amongst diabetic men is similar to those males with heart diseases .
The research found that diabetic men were less prone to death from cardiovascular related causes when compared to those who had previous cardiovascular events. However, over a longer period of time than five years, the mortality rate was the same.
Having type 2 diabetes and a previous history of heart attack or stroke makes men three or four times more likely to suffer a cardiovascular related death. The research team urged individuals to take strong preventative measures to avoid developing diabetes and cardiovascular events, and furthermore to manage their condition closely in case of problems.
