According to a recent report in the diabetes news, over one million people with diabetes in the UK are not getting the National Health Service attention that they need.
Diabetes patients are reportedly missing out on vital checks including cholesterol, blood sugar levels and body mass index readings, including crucial eye and foot examinations that can help to avoid diabetes complications .
In the UK, some 852,000 people with diabetes are affected by the poor quality of care . The report, conducted by the NHS Information Centre, examined the care provided by GP practices and hospitals .
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommend a series of nine checks for people with diabetes . These include eye and foot exams, blood pressure and cholesterol tests, glucose monitoring, smoking history and BMI .
