A new diabetes treatment centre has been opened in Lanarkshire, combining a variety of services for diabetic patients. The David Matthews Diabetes Centre will be opened by Health Secretary Nicola Surgeon .
The centre is part of the Monklands hospital in Airdrie, and is named after Dr. David Matthews, an expert in diabetes care who worked at the hospital. The new centre will help people with diabetes to manage their condition, and will include special diabetes treatments such as dietetics and podiatry .
Dr. David Matthews passed away last year, but his wife Allyson will attend the opening next Wednesday in his honour. Also present at the ceremony will be two diabetes patients who have lived with the condition for 50 years, and will be given medals by diabetes charity Diabetes UK .
