Over 57 million people in America have pre-diabetes, with a huge pre-diabetic population building up in the UK. Diabetes is a complex condition which is affected by a number of different factors. The symptoms of diabetes are equally complex, and many people have type 2 diabetes without realising it.
Type 2 diabetes accounts for between 90 and 95 per cent of diabetes cases in America, and is caused by the inability of the body to process insulin. What many people do not realise is that their diet massively affects the internal functioning of their body. Being overweight or obese is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes .
To lower your risk of diabetes complications, try to lose weight. Avoid trans-fats, which are in many processed foots, and hydrogenated oils. Also, replace saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats. Furthermore, replace red meat and processed meat with seafood, poultry, beans and whole grains. Drink water instead of juice, and increase your intake of fruit and vegetables. All of these will lower your diabetes risk .
