Coffee and decreased diabetes risk has been associated in a number of studies. Type 2 diabetes is a lifestyle condition in many cases, often linked with obesity and stress . Previous research has shown that the antioxidants in coffee could lower diabetes risks . However, a new study has linked a lunchtime coffee with a lower chance of developing diabetes .
The research was suggested by experts at the University of Sao Paulo in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. The team analyzed data from almost 70,000 French women. The women in the study were followed for 11 years on average. By drinking coffee, the research group had a 27% lower risk of developing diabetes.
However, it is worth mentioning a key aspect of the study. The benefits of a lunchtime coffee was only present in black coffee, the benefits of coffee with milk were not discovered. Coffee is rich in antioxidants including magnesium and chlorogenic acid. The study was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition .
