Around U Soccer Skills Day London Soccerdome
Around U Soccer Skills Day 2011Youngsters with diabetes found themselves 'kicking off' a great summer at the London Soccerdome as part of a series of events hosted by Bayer’s Around U.
Supported by Diabetes.co.uk and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), this was just one of four sports days that were set up by Around U, in order to help young people have fun without letting the strain of diabetes wear them down.
Their abilities and skills were put to the test when influential West Ham United Academy director, Tony Carr MBE showed up, to offer his support and discuss his own experiences as a diabetic himself. He said: “Around U is the perfect environment for young people with diabetes to practice their football skills and learn how other people the same age, deal with their diabetes.”
Designed to get youngsters with diabetes involved
Overall the day was designed to get youngsters with diabetes involved and perhaps even give them a few ideas for the future. Tony Carr added further:
“I was speaking with a parent whose son was only diagnosed with diabetes three months ago. He said dealing with diabetes was daunting but that an event like Bayer’s Around U helped reassure him that he wasn’t alone.”
The London Soccerdome is situated at the heart of the Greenwich Peninsula, next to the O2 arena.
It is currently the largest indoor football arena in Europe, which compromises of two full size pitches and other facilities.
As well as football, it has offered opportunities for other events such as conferences and film productions.
It’s certain to say that those who had the opportunity to visit such a landmark, had an inspiring experience that has led to new friendships and ambitions.
