Around U STREET Dance Day - Pineapple Studios

STREET Dance Day - Pineapple Studios Around U at Pineapple Studios

Forty youngsters between the ages of six and 16 with diabetes got their groove on at the Pineapple Dance Studios in Central London this summer.

The event was part of Bayer’s Around U sports days that have been running throughout the holidays.

The aim of Around U events is to show young people that, although they may have diabetes, they can still have all the fun and this was definitely the case.

Around U is currently supported by Diabetes.co.uk and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

As part of the day’s excitement, the youngsters got the chance to meet professional race car driver, Andrew Richardson, who spoke to them about diabetes and how he tackles the condition himself in a racing environment.

That wasn’t the only surprise after top choreographer on BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, showed up to offer his inspirations. Parents and guardians stood proud as they watched their children’s enthusiasm for dancing.

Model and businesswoman Debbie Moore founded pineapple Dance Studios in 1979.

Since then it has been used for castings and rehearsals by dance companies, record labels, television networks and West End shows.  More recently it has played host to the Pineapple Dance Studios on Sky featuring Debbie Moore and Louie Spence themselves, making it a rewarding experience for the youngsters that went to visit.

As a final note Andrea Postles, from Bayer, said “During each of the four events it was apparent that many of the youngsters have never had the opportunity to mix with other young people with type 1 diabetes, so I hope that participants have gone away with new friends and information to help them deal with their diabetes.”
