I too suffered from a dry mouth,my dentist kept on commenting on it and asking if I was de-hydrated.This was not possible as by the time I had seen him I had already started my day with my usual three drinks.I think it is either a side effect of the diabetic condition or the metformin. At the time I was on 3xmetformin per day like you and suffered from periodic bouts of oral thrush.
Since doing the Newcastle Diet my blood sugars have improved to the point where I am off metformin with blood sugars at a normal level on a calorie controlled diet with lots of exercise. My mouth is now producing the expected amounts of saliva and my dentist has congratulated me on my improved hydration regime!

Poor you, there are quite a few possible causes for dry mouth, the obvious for us would be high bg levels, but I had dry mouth syndrome when I was severely anaemic and my aunt had dry mouth syndrome as a result of hypothyroidism, so much so that she could barely move her tongue.
Are you taking medication that could cause you to become dehydrated?? If this condition doesnt go away, you should discuss with your doctor to make sure there isnt an underlying disease there.
Hope all goes well for you x x

Is the problem here Ramipril?
I am visiting the GP this evening to discuss.
I am waking about three to four times a night with a cough and throat irritation that is cured by sipping water, but it's becoming a nuisance. It is now happening occasionally during the day.
The other issue of concern is the inflamation of my appendix. Normally, this would not be detected but my surgeon noted during a hernia operation that my appendix was inflamed (saw it with a cemera). Then a few days later The Sun (09 September) reported on Ramipril causing inflation of the appendix.
Diagnosed Jan 2012 > Type 2 > HbA1c = 7.4% > Oct 2012 = 6.1% > May 2013 = 6.1%
Metformin 2000mg > Simvastatin 40mg > Losartan 100mg (replaces Ramipril) > Amitriptyline 20mg
Swimming 12 km a week. Weight down from 104kg to 82kg.

Dehydration and high bg would be two of many reasons for a dry mouth......but as you've ruled these out it's best that you see your gp and discuss.

I saw the GP.
I say Ramy-pril; he says Ram-ip-ril.
Anyway he agrees that the cough and dryness is more thanl likely causxe by the Ramipril and has swapped out for an ARD.
