Latest update

Postby Philip99 » October 30th, 2012, 11:01 am

Well, it was August 2nd 2012 when I was diagnosed Type 2 and was very confused!

I immediately read all the info on here and started low carb diet-and also reasonably low fat as well.

So, how am I doing?

Well, my meter results were between 6 amd 9.9 at the start (after starting low carb-my original blood tests showed fasting levels of 16 and 10). They are now between 4.5 and 6.5 2 hours after eating and only once in the last month did they rise to 9.5 and that was after rice, which I did on purpose to see what happened.

I have gone from 135kg to 109kg (as of 3 weeks ago, I havent weighed myself recently, but i would suspect I am now 105) and have already had to buy new suits for work, which are already too big.

I feel great, no afternoon doziness and even my boss (who dosent know I am T2) has said how pleased she is with the way I am performing recently at work.

So far, so good.

Only problem now is my BP. It was high so I started on 5mg of Ramiprill, which was then upped to 10mg. But my results at home are still to high:( What else can they give me for high BP?

Overall I am pleased and its mostly down to you guys with your never ending good advice and support!

Thank you.

They put you on a Diuretic also (water tablet). Diuretics work by increasing the amount of salt and fluid that you pass out in your urine, this has some effect on reducing the fluid in the circulation which in turn reduces blood pressure.

Well done, that's excellent progress. I'm sure the blood pressure will come down in time now you're eating better. Try not to get too worked up about it in the short term, stress can increase your blood pressure too.

I was hoping for some beta blockers!

I am on Beta blockers and a few others, I would avoid them if possible. I am also on Ramipril and it is an ACE inhibitor.

Beta blockers can have some unfortunate side effects, Google it to see what!

If you have T2 you stand a very high chance of having high blood pressure, the reasons for this are not fully understood.

The high blood pressure is a major factor in many of the complications that arise from T2, you would be wise to keep it as low as you can
and I suggest a home BP meter with a series (maybe 12) of tests over a typical day. Your doctor will find the resulting chart quite useful.

My doctor always asks for my home readings but checks them by doing 3 on the surgery meter. From time to time it is important to calibrate your home meter against the surgery one.

I am sure your gp will discuss the options if they think you should be on extra medication.
