1st November

Consultant wanted it sooner but due to wanting me to have steroids and to let my hand recover from my IV last week, soonest this little git will be born

unless of course it decides to come early... which is possible as they dont know if my contractions have started LOL
I went on a monitor today and my braxton hicks contractions were coming VERY regular, so they wanting me to keep an eye on pain lol

Well saw my diabetic team for the last time before I have the baby

got to admit it was a positive experience... they are really impressed with how ive managed my diabetes during this pregnancy and thats even with all the issues i have had

they are soooo impressed with me they want me to talk about it in the next pump meeting they do

it feels good to be noticed for doing something good

Heyhey
My c-section went ahead as planned and on 1st November at 9:58 I had my beautiful daughter Amelia, weighing a whopping 9lb3

The diabetes did cause a slight complication which was made worse by her being a little on the big side however we are both doing welland hoping to go home tomorrow

Side effect of being a diabetic mother is that the babies can hypo when born, which amelia did... being a bigger baby meant that what i was giving her wasnt quite enough so she remained hypo for quite some time

however she has more than recovered and is doing great apart from having had lots of blood glucose tests done on her feet

Congratulation On the Birth of Amelia (wonderful name same as my step daughter).
My Daughter suffered Hypo's when she was born as well was so scary at the time, constant breast feeding and full formula feeds as well to try and stabilize it.
Another word from rescent experience my little one weighed 8lbs 8oz at 36 weeks and lost a lot in first few days but didn't put it back on like non diabetic babies do, regular midwife and health visitor was constantly on my case saying she was 'failing to thrive' etc and needed to be seen by pead's had us so worried, but pead said straight away that can happen when they born extra big because of the diabetes and was nothing to worry about.
Hope you all settling down well and congratulations again

Hey

just wanted to say we are still under midwife care as though Amelia is putting on weight, she's not putting on a lot (and thats after loosing a total of 13.1% of her birth weight) so is now still at 10% down from her birth weight. We do have the midwife on our backs, needs feeding every 2 hours, onto bottles now

and apparently she has to have 3oz every 2 hours

even the health visitor was shocked at how much they were expecting her to have!!! Other than that Amelia is great

she's bright and alert and a happy little girl

my diabetes on the other hand is all over the place LOL on a tbr of 75% then ill need to cancel it and then 2 or 3 hours later ill need to drop insulin again lol its a bit of a rollercoaster atm

Drangonflye,
I feel so angry reading your post, NOT at you but at midwifes etc BECAUSE i had exactly same, trying to pressurize me into bottle feeding saying i was providing her enough milk etc they left me feeling like a failure. she was 5 weeks old when midwife discharged us and only AFTER consultant at hospital said its natural with diabetes. Our babys are born much bigger than they would be without diabetes, when they are born they natuarlly 'shed' the weight that they acquired. What makes me mad is they try to get them back up to the birth weight to quick, Alexis was born on 99.6 centile if she had maintained her weight she would of ended up being classed as obese. have you thought about speaking to the diabetes specialist midwife? i did and helped so community midwifes understand more. It took Alexis 5 weeks to get back to her birth weight. the most important thing is that Amelia is alert!
Trust YOUR instincts with her, i personally demand fed and ignored there advice.
If you ever want to chat im here, been through it rescently and all still very fresh in my mind.
Good luck

19 days and Amelia is still under midwife care!!! A few issues still but her weight gain is still very slow... although 1st time midwife has said that the HUGE weight loss was artificial weight she lost due to my diabetes

She's still a little poppet

sleeps most of the night

and my hubby deals with night time stuff to let me sleep lol
diabetes is all fun and games though, 10l of lucozade in 7 days regardless of what changes i make to my pump... i dont like doing things normally LOL
