I'd have been more than happy with a fasting of 6.5 mmol/L !He may ask you to do a glucose tolerance test. You fast and he takes blood, just like your fasting test. Then you have to drink a controlled amount of glucose and they test you 2 hours later by taking more blood. If the blood glucose on the second test is high, over 11.1mmol/L then they say you are diabetic. If it is between 7.8-11 mmol/L they say it is impaired glucose tolerance but they tend to treat as diabetes as well.

I DIDN'T KNOW IF PORRIDGE WAS GOOD OR NOT AS ONLY JUST FOUND OUT I AM TYPE 2. I FIGURED THAT AS IT WAS OAT BASED AND NOT WHEAT IT MAY BE OK.......BUT BEWARE ONLY USE THE OATS FROM A BIG BOX NOT THOSE LITTLE SACHETS WITH THE NICE ADDED FLAVORS, BERRIES AND NUTS ETC. IF YOU READ THE ADDED SUGARS IN THEM YOU WILL GET A FRIGHT. I FIND THE ORGANIC HOME PRODUCED OATS FOM A SUPERMARKET BEGINING WITH M ARE REALLY GOOD CREAMY AND TASTY WITH OUT ADDING ANYTHING TO THEM.

I can't eat even the best wholegrain, minimally processed, pure oats - even 30 grams still pushes my BG levels way too high.

I had porridge yesterday morning with 1tsp honey (think I shall give that a miss from now on) and my readings 2 hours later were 9.5 This morning I had half a mollette (a soft bap type roll) toasted with olive oil and sliced tomato (I live in Spain) and 2 hours later my results were 6.8 I will have porridge tomorrow without the honey (I fancied a treat!) and re-test.
I am diet controlled, no medicatiion. I have been diagnosed now for about 5 years
