Statin Drugs Calcify The Coronary Arteries

... according to two new studies that suggest frequent statin use leads to increased coronary artery plaque. One of the studies dealt included T2 diabetics.

A new study published in the journal Atherosclerosis found that statin use is associated with a 52% increased prevalence and extent of coronary artery plaques possessing calcium.[i] This study, published on August 24th, was preceded only three weeks earlier by one in the journal Diabetes Care, which found that coronary artery calcification "was significantly higher in more frequent statin users than in less frequent users," among patients with type 2 diabetes and advanced atherosclerosis.

It seems rather obvious to me that statins are treating a symptom rather than a cause. Yes they help to reduce your LDL-C scores, but as we've observed elsewhere, these only have a tenuous connection with the actual causes of heart-disease.

All drugs have side effects and I'm not sure if we might be better off taking none at all!
