Defren,
sometimes mail order fashions are "smaller" for label and the fashion ranges such as "New Look" are smaller.
You and I should get together. I'm 2 sizes bigger top than bottom. Always have been! Chain store and supermarket sizes are generous as are some styles from M&S

I am a skinny granny and my grand daughter is getting married early next year and I am dreading trying to find something really nice to wear, because I am a size 8/10 all the clothes are trendy (as in long but very low or ok at the top but barely covering knickers)I really would love to wear a dress but it looks like blouse and skirt at least I will be able to fit top and bottom seperately  That doesnt sound right but the ladies will know what I mean

Hi Carty, have you tried Wallis clothes? I get a lot of work clothes from Wallis, they are classy and a decent length etc. Also Debenhams Classic collection is pretty classy too.

How nice to have something so special to look forward to!!

Yes we should get together Hana, we might be able to organize a decent wardrobe

I have bought some long length sweaters that I can wear tights or leggings with, and more dresses. I can be pretty comfortable in these, and they will be fine with a belt when I am smaller.

One thing that really was funny, I had cleared out a lot of my clothes, got rid of the crap, sent more to the charity shop, and only kept what I though fit now or was smaller. I popped on a pair of saved PJ's that for some reason I thought were fine, and as fast as I pulled them up and stood up, they fell down. More in the charity shop bag.

Reading this thread and just thought....have we got any fashion designers / dressmakers on here? Maybe it would be feasible for someone to start up a clothing line for unconventional sizes ie: bigger tops & narrow hips or narrow shoulders & larger hips. You can get petite clothes or big man's sizes etc but is there anyone that caters for those that don't fit the traditional 10, 12, 14 etc?

Regards
Angie

Have any of you tried Gok's clothes from Sainsbury? I love his jeans. They fit well and have
a good stretch in them. The only problem is they tend to be long. Made for high heel wearers I suppose .
I've just bought a great pair of red ones to celebrate fitting into a size with a 1 at the front of it not a 2!!

I really love his clothes, although I'm not keen on some of his colours this season. His fitted peplum black dress is to die for, along with the fitted almost box jackets. I have forbidden myself from buying anything just now, because they are so tailored, if I tried to wear them after weigh loss around my middle, they are just not going to hang right, and a belt or whatever will spoil the tailoring. Once I am at my optimal waist size, I have promised myself I can have all I want, but until then - no. It's really hard though as I have to pass Gok's collection on my way into Sainsbury's. :(

Just a suggestion
Keep a small spring coiled tape measure in your pocket or handbag. Measure those clothes that fit you best and check any you are thinking of buying.
I too have changed size and become an awkward shape. I have huge boobs.[chest body size has got smaller, but not those] Not really an asset when you're 65 as the means of support in size 36J is pretty expensive and absolutely essential. Never mind the cost of swimwear. I swim often
My top half is 3 sizes bigger than my bottom and so if I have a top that fits comfortably over the excessie bosom, It flaps around my hips. I tend to buy jumpers which are nominally 1 size too small. they stretch where they must and don't flap so much where I don't need it. I find I do quite well in leggings [got long slim legs] and knit tunics.

Hi Carty.
I was in the same place with yourself for finding an ideal mother of the bride's outfits 5years ago . 7.7.07 .
When our daughter got married .

I ended up at boundary mills bury/colne northwest , where they had and still have even now .
Fantastic seperates to mix and match from loads of great named designers and top range brands .
All are at discounted prices too

I am 2sizes bigger up top than my lower size of just 12/14 .
Top half is 18 - due to the bust  [tiny shoulders and back too ]

Here I managed to snap up 2 fabulous outfits plus wedding hats n handbags to match
[I love handbags :D - they are my thing and weakness ]
They are all unique individual pieces all made to intermatch up with eachother as a finished outfit.
Think ladies day at ascot races - its all like this :P
With her getting married in the july - think it was the april when we went there ...

There is also another similar place to find some good mix n match options matalan outlets , debenhams , m&s ,
but the choices are much more limited ...
Up at boundary mill there is a vast range of collections to choose from .
Or hunt locally for a dress/tailors shop who can do adaptions in dressmaking skills for an extra idea for you :?:
May cost a bit more but as an alternative option idea

Please do let us know what you end up with, its nice to hear and it can help others too .

Anna.
meds intolerances [ tablets MUST be sterate based ]
Victoza/Hypurin porcine isophane insulin
Vitamin D deficient
low carb diet / snack sized portions only
