 i have been using a libre for the past fortnight and started to realise something unusual. It is my understanding that the principle of rapid insulin (Novorapid) is to create a short spike and then over a four hour period slowly reduce the glucose levels.<br />
<br />
What I have started to see using the libre, is that at breakfast I spike (as per norm) but then the gradual decline seems to run out of steam quickly resulting in a long drawn out process of reducing levels...<br />

I know the effect of a unit of insulin will, potentially, be different depending on many factors (age, time of diagnosis, current state of pancreas and any remains beta cells etc...). <br />
I have always been told that the general rule of thumb is 1 unit changes blood glucose by 3 mmol/l. However, the more I consider this the more I think this is, as described, a rule of thumb and we should calculate this,...<br />

Im 24, a type 1 diabetec, and use novorapid and toujeo (basal). I have no idea on how much insulin to take anymore and I&#039;m fed up!! I went from taking 30 units to 2 units of toujeo at night and I keep changing my novorapid rates to test my ratio. The problem is, my numbers are always above 9 mmol within the first hour and 10 to 11 mmol within the second hour no matter what I eat or do. I&#039;ve tried taking my insulin 10 to 20 mins before, tried to eat high in protien and fibre but...<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[OK, so NICE guidelines are that insulin pump therapy is for T1 diabetes. However, the CCGs do have the ability to approve funding for a T2 patient on an individual case-by-case basis. I live in Salford, where the CCG and the PCT before them have never approved insulin pump therapy for any T2 insulin dependent patient, ever.<br />
I discussed this at my diabetes nurse review this afternoon, but my pleas for at least looking into it seemed to fall on deaf ears.<br />

I&#039;m struggling to lower my BS. I&#039;ve eaten literally no carbs this morning as I&#039;m on a LCHF diet.<br />
<br />

<li>I woke <span style="text-decoration: underline">5:40 am </span>with BS <i>3.9</i></li>
<li>One hour later I was <i>7.9 (even though I consumed nothing)</i></li>
<li>After a little cheese and a bulletproof coffee at <span style="text-decoration: underline">10 am</span> my BS was <i>14.5</i></li>
<li>Took 10 units of Humalog</li>
<li>Had a few Brazil nuts</li>
<li><span style="text-decoration: underline">11:20 am</span> my BS is <i>14.8</i></li>
</ul><br />
Something other than carbs (because I&#039;ve had very little carbs) is causing...<br />

Started on 26u per day but glucose levels have been increasing and had to increase insulin to 32u.  Readings first thing in the morning rose even higher to 12 or 13.  Diabetic Nurse advised a further 2 unit increase but then readings went up to 14.  Read on the Forum that sometimes too much insulin can increase glucose readings so have been steadily reducing...<br />

After years of expressing my hatred(!) of Lantus and carrying out all the basal tests and printing endless reports I have been moved onto Levemir.<br />
I was told to expect a few days of up and downs blood sugar wise as after 15 years on lantus this is a huge change to my body. <br />
So previously I was on 16 units of lantus at 9pm.  My DSN has split this with the Levemir to 8 units at 8am and 8 units at 8pm. <br />

I am too skinny no bum no fat not a mm of fat on me as a result my insulin is not being absorbed properly especially my background insulin.<br />
