I've been looking for information on links between type1 diabetes and epilepsy and have not been able to find much. Has anyone else been looking into this?? And have you found any good information??

Thanks in advance

I'm not aware that the 2 are in any way related. Of course hypoglycemic events can result in grand mal seizures, but that's not "epilepsy" which originates in the brain, it results from hypoglycemia's effect on the cerebral stability.

There are studies that are now making links between the two due to the fact that epilepsy is also thought to be a autoimmune deficiency.

People with type 1 are 3x more likely to have epilepsy than people without type 1 - https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/news...etes-linked-to-epilepsy-risk-study-suggests#3

So it's more than a coincidental relationship, but they aren't really sure what the relationship is, there is some conjecture that epilepsy could be cause by GAD antibodies - http://www.neurologytimes.com/epilepsy-and-seizure/are-epilepsy-and-type-1-diabetes-linked Or it could be that high blood sugars alters the vessels in the brain and allows epilepsy to develop, or low blood sugars cause some damage to the brain and so you get epilepsy.
