What hbac1 did you fall pregnant at?

Hi all, I hope you are well. My hbac1 is currently 7.8% and I have brought it down a lot as I used to be on the red traffic light! I feel like my specialist has put the fear of God in me and advised me not to fall pregnant at this stage. I'm just wondering what your readings were like when you fell pregnant and did you have any complications or issues?

Hey Slayer, I haven't fallen pregnant yet however I'm going to a pre pregnancy clinic and they have advised me to not fall pregnant until I am under 7% I am on folic acid though. I think the risks are higher than that of a normal pregnancy. It's frustrating but I get it's for the best! I wouldn't try to conceive until I get the go ahead from the clinic. I have read on here and other forums though of women falling pregnant on a much higher a1c number and having perfectly healthy babies!

I am also on folic acid and pregnacare. The issue I have is, when my blood sugars are 4 or5, I can feel myself going hypo! I dont knw if that is normal but I am afraid to go to sleep when I am 4

They advised me at clinic to not go to bed with a blood sugar under 6 so maybe eat something like a piece of toast before bed and do a 3am test? I know what you mean though I fear night time hypos too. Would a hypo wake you if you went to 3?

I have woken up when my blood sugars dropped to 2, sweating and feeling generally unwell. I didnt think they had dropped though. I had no energy in me and luckily tested!

Maybe ask your dsn next time to be sure but I would definatly be eating something before bed because I know for myself that would be too long to go without carbs but I could be wrong!

My a1c was 41 (or 5.9%) when I fell pregnant

I'm currently 33w pregnant and since then it's been 39 and 38 so stayed around the same really, this is partly due to lots of hypo's though especially in the first half of pregnancy due to hormones & having hypermesis.

My bg range is 3.6-5.8 but I only go to bed if bg is between 5.8-6.4 for my own piece of mind, I am on a pump so can easily sort it if I'm not around that range, if you don't already I would seriously consider having a pump especially for pregnancy as it makes everything a lot easier :)

Hi for my daughter now age2 and type1 I got pre eclampsia and she was delivered at 35w I think my hba1c was 7%ish but then got it down further whilst pregnant.
For my twins 6m I was 39 I think the last one before I delivered was 33 so pretty good the whole time but one of my twins was seriously ill-don't know if this is due to diabetes or not as control couldn't have been much better. They were also born at 35w.
Like @Mrsass i was on a pump-couldn't have done it without x

When I fell pregnant with my son it was a surprise!! Think my hba1c was 7.3% but got it down to 6.6% during pregnancy! Don't know how as i suffered horrendous highs in the mornings! But I was on injections! This time my hba1c was 6.6% when I fell pregnant my one yesterday was 6.7%! (Grrrr) this time tho I'm on a pump so a lot more tweaks can be made!! X X

I have heard that the first three months are the most important. I have bought a ovulation kit so hoping that will help! Will deffo go back on the pump xx

It's important all the way thru really, as baby is developing all the time. And in the 3rd trimester the baby can become very big if it gets too much sugar. My little boy was 11lb 1oz at 38 weeks!!

Control changes almost immediately, I noticed it this time! Sugars from 5 mmol to 7/8mmol at 5 weeks pregnant! Now have a high basal rate from 2am and I had a 4.7 this morning! X X X

At the moment... artex ceilings. Also the concrete patio.
My pregnancy was a pleasant surprise. My a1c was 9% (now 5%) at the time. I would not recommend it. The stress and guilt is overwhelming. I can only do my best now to fix what I've done. I am dreading the anomaly scan, and if we get through that, the birth.

My HBA1C was 6.2% before getting pregnant but has dipped to 4.5% as I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum for the first 13 weeks and have basically been hypo for the whole duration- which in itself has been hard work! I think that no matter how tight or not your control is you will still panic no matter what as it is drilled in to us at every appointment. Every scan I've had I've worried about before hand but to date I'm 24 weeks and everything so far is normal. So, don't panic! You will be fine, and just keep doing what you're doing to try and bring it down. I recommend to start taking a pre conception multi vitamin now and high dose folic acid (ask your dr). GOOD LUCK! :)

It's so hard, I'm living off lucazade at the moment, with sugars having to be so tight after meals, I have lucazade and insulin free snacks to keep my sugar up! But My insulin:carb ratios are increasing by the day at the moment (so it feels like!) is anyone else finding this?

@wannabemammy, I am 14 weeks. Doing well so far :)!

I was hypo A LOT during my first trimester, up to 3 times a day. It's easing up a bit, generally hypo once a day now (progress! :p).

Oh girls that sounds tough to be hypoing that much! Ye must be drained from them! Is it effecting your daily routine? Work?
