I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. 3 years ago. My numbers were rarely going below ten. Hovering at 16 i was put on insulin about 18 months ago. A few weeks ago i lost my insulin on route to my daughter in London. We tried to get it including pens but it was a Sunday. I thought i could go without it for three days. I became very ill on train back so ill an ambulance was called from train and i was put off at edinburgh. I was rished into icu where they thought at first i was drunk. I had grade 4 oesophagitis. I was bleeding internally and had severe diabetic ketonacidosis they discovered once i was able to tell them. I was told i was probably a late onset type one as it would take 30 years of type two to get as bad. They keep saying they will test for it I am waiting. Why did they not twig this locally to warn me.

Quite often late onset type 1 gets diagnosed as type 2 when I was diagnosed the gp said it'll be type 2.however I was tested for antibodies (I have other autoimmune conditions) and it came back v clearly type 1. Despite this medics/nurses keep querying my type 1 until they check my test results.
