We bought a 1996 access bus 9 years ago. Spent 12 months converting it, took a 1 month shake down holiday to find any problems. Found lots Back to the drawing board and sorted it over the next 6 months.

We've spent the last 8 years taking extended holidays in France and Italy, absolute bliss

Last year was our longest, 6 months, next year could be our shortest, 10 weeks (grandson will be 18 in the May), unless I can talk himself into going down to Spain for the winter.

Go for it douglas99, the world is out there waiting for you.

Planning the next holiday with Hubby, I love retirement. And having a lovely, funny, grandson.

This sounds amazing! I have a burning wanderlust that I need to satisfy soon. Scandinavia has always been really appealing to me but the closest I've actually been is Holland.

You should do it! Once you get the bug you will never want to leave! My favourite city in the whole world is Gothenburg! If I won the lottery, I would live there permanently! Of course there are places which are more beautiful but I was a student there, got married there and have had many wonderful holidays there pre children and afterwards! The kids love it there too! They like the beaches and island hopping!

Dave my signature says it all take up part time studying and get your dreams the world needs a specialist PT who deals in your case with diabetics a good PT is worth their weight in gold but they have their limitations you should go for your dream.
Start with the basic and work up once your Basic PT is done you can take classes and earn extra to get the next step done. it wont be easy but it is doable if you want to.

Our PT is brilliant has T1 and me (t2) just need a preD a gestational and a 1.5 and he will have a full house

Great thread everyone!
I'm a newbie, coping with the metaformin side effects and wondering why I gave up smoking and took up diabetes, seems I still give all my cash to Mr Morrison, just not at the ciggie counter anymore!
Anyway, I'm self employed (photographer) and I do this to help give me a base income when there's no work about. I do it part time for fun but it really works and is easy to do.
Check out www.extraincome4life.com and leave your cynics head to one side. I am worse than Victor Meldrew when it comes to things like this but it nets me £250 ish a month at the moment without really putting in much effort. (I'm not going to stop till there's a nought on the end of that!). It's the residual income that gets me, brilliant!
Have a go for plugging something slightly off topic if you like but if just one person improves their lot in life and is happier as a result it's worth it isn't it?

If you are willing to swap the convertible for a good pair of boots and a backpack you can DEFINITELY experience the freedom of the open road in England.

There are some fab wild routes here and we live on a beautiful island.

Yes I have 4 whippets so my wife and I often do.

Well, I know mine.

I always wanted to travel, so I intend to buy/convert a motorhome/small van when I semi retire.
Self conversion seems best, as I know exactly what I want.
Nothing huge, just something big enough to get off the beaten track, loaded up with the dive gear, and go and camp on beaches and coves.
When not doing that, just pottering around Europe, wildcamping, sitting somewhere quiet with the bottle of wine, and cooking fresh food every night.
Probably mainly veg, as I'm on a budget, so cheap meals that I can't freeze.
(Pity about the French bread though. Still, I have the pate)
Something 4 wheel drive, and winterised, so I can get up to the artic circle as well, and sit there watching the northern lights.
(And dive obviously).
Off into a desert somewhere as well, just so I can check if off my bucket list.
No rush to anywhere, no rush back, just go when I feel like, and potter around for months at a time, then do a bit of work in between if I need to.

What keeps the rest of you going?

I enjoyed reading about your plans Douglas - Im a big fan of the whole camper scenario although a way off that level of plan - someday Id like to travel across America, that feels liberating just thinking about it

Mainly, I couldnt help noticing your mentioning the newcastle diet - this has me well intruiged. How are you/did you get on with it if you dont mind my asking please?

Id like to try it, and see whats what - but would ideally like to know how much fat I have around my pancreas (and other organs) Ive read this possible through some kind of bouncing wave (cant recall the technology) - My doctor was apprehensive when I explained what it was, he was vaguelly aware of the research but not fully in the know, I relayed many links etc... and the video seminar link that best explains it, as well as the pdf that highlights the diet/process. Even the slightest notion that I could be somehow repaired, or at least give my pancreas the chance to function properly again is an exciting one. Im being realistic though, it may not be possible at all, but Id like to know more for sure.

Being by the sea. I own a static caravan just half an hours drive from my house, but it's a different world! A huge beach which is never busy, even during the holiday season it's often just me, my dog and a load of sea birds! There's no clubhouse, no through traffic, no shops....frequently no mobile phone signal and rarely any internet access either, lol. There is a pub, a mile away by country lane or a bit longer across the beach, up through the dunes and the woods.....just watch the tide! I love to be there whatever the weather, walking on the beach, over the cliffs, watching the birds and wildlife, beach combing, doing jellyfish counts etc, taking pics and generally being part of a world so many people never see, because they're too busy to simply "stand and stare". I am SO lucky!

well 2months ago i left city life and moved with my partner,to maryport,a seaside town that has a harbour and sandy beach,on the solway firth in west cumbria. and to our suprise when you look out of our flats window thats high up on a hillside,you can see great views over the dumfries and galloway coast line in sw scotland.my family used to have caravans. but as you say theres nothing like caravan holidays but must admit every day i walk up and down the hills of maryport with beautifull sea views and fresh air, my type 1 diabetes BGreadings are alot lower now
