So I bumped into a friend of mine earlier

Who has a good friend who has just been diagnosed as a Type 2. The conversation went something like this.....

Hi Karen, how's you?
Yeah good thanks, you?
Never better
Steve, you're diabetic right?
Type 2, yeah why?
Nigel's just been diagnosed.
(I don't really know Nigel) Oh. Right.
It must be awful.
Not really, why awful?
Well, you know........
Ummmmm
Not being able to eat all that stuff.....
Uhhh what stuff Karen?
Well, you know, meat.
What???

I've given her my number and told her to get Nigel to call me, has anyone on this forum been told not to eat meat when diagnosed??? It's a new one on me and a very strange comment as far as I can see....

I was told to make sure my protein (meat etc.) portions were about the size of a computer mouse, no more, no less. Maybe he is getting mixed up if he was told something similar. Load of rubbish of course.

maybe told not to eat meat pies, sausages etc - could be thats the only 'meat' they eat so have said they can no longer eat meat?

I wasn't told to eat meat when diagnosed

He might have been diagnosed with something else alongside T2D, but that's certainly odd advice for a diabetes diagnosis.
