Hello

I'm on Animas Vibe and am now due for new pump and am considering the Omnipod. The thing is I have needle phobia so a self inserting cannula sounds great. Does it hurt a lot though?

Also I have lots of moles on my body. With the Insets I can see where the needle is going and avoid them. Can you do this on Omnipod?

How reliable are the new pods?

Hi ,
My daughter just started on the omnipod on Monday.
Before that we had a week of trialing it with saline...and yes I tried it too.
To put your mind at rest ...it's as painfree as totally possible.
When you press the button for the cannula to go in...Its feels exactly like someone gently twanging a small elastic band against your skin.
However it makes a "release " noise which will make you jump ...but pain.....absolutely not .
regarding moles ...this maybe a bit tricky ...but am sure ids doable.
why not see if you can get a trial of the omnipod ...then make your mind up from there ..
Good luck

Evening,
It's only week one for us , so would love to give you more input but I truly can't ...what I can say is ...after nearly 4 years of constant injecting ..
.yes truly realise you all know more about this than I ....( daughter diagnosed at 9 with type numero UNO...I see it but cant ever truly feel it)...but suddenly no more injections !!!
Suddenly no more watching the clock for the glargine injections...
no more nagging (from me)....
"have you done your insulin?"
"Can you at least put your needles in the sharps box"?....
etc etc.
I'm not naive I know there are pros and cons for every single thing out there....
at mo we are so happy...we are still sorting out basal requirements...but its only day 5

wishing you both the best....

What made you choose omnipod over the other pumps? I am hoping my DSN will let me trial a pod at my clinic but maybe they can't do that as I guess you'd need the pump?

on choosing the omnipod.......to be truthful it was the fact this pump was one unit...NO TUBING ...no bag to carry it around....or strap to your knickers
Just a simple stick on and go!!
She's 12 I want life as easy as possible for her.
Please note we didnt change to a pump on a whim.
Levels for my daughter have been suddenly horrendous....injecting has suddenly become an issue ( remember being a teenager !!)
I wanted her safe and confident again with her numero uno..thats all.

Re trialing the pod. and DSN ...I'm new here so unsure what DSN means !! Diabetes Specialist Nurse ???
firstly we were given a dummy pod to just stick on and see how it felt ( please note these are expensive and to be honest a bit of a waste )
Once we received funding we were given pods and monitor with saline plus a few hours of training ...this I highly recommend as it definitely gave us a bit of experience before the big change over...which again was more hours of training and lots of advice.
To be honest the last few days have felt like when she was first diagnosed...a massive learning curve of how the new system will work and how it will affect her.

its a big step....but I feel AND HOPE we may have just taken the next step up in her diabetes care..
