Hello, I am a new member from sunny Glasgow, and have been a type 1 for nearly 40 years ! I am on novo rapid and lev emir twice daily, but I am struggling to get stable low readings despite lots of novo rapid and for the past two to three weeks have felt rough ! Sick, dizzy, unsteady on my feet, but my ketones are reading 0.2 any ideas, first to try and stop this sick feeling, and then get rid of the doctors ! Hehe

Hi bud, I'm also type 1 for 30+ years. The sick feeling is probably because your blood sugar is unusually high and will hopefully go once your levels stabilise again. Hot weather can cause changes in your sugar levels, have you had the hot weather up in sunny Glasgow? I know from experience that sometimes your sugar levels can have a mind of their own but if you still can't stabilise or the nausea etc doesn't go you should see your diabetic consultant to rule out complications such as neuropathy or gastric problems. Hope the ****** feeling soon passes x x x

Hello fatgirl like your name, this bout of illness is been ongoing for 3 to 4 weeks, I am taking bg readings and they are not too bad and ketones are 0.1, 0.2, not too high. I am very dizzy, light headed and can't keep my balance or walk straight ( I think I was always like that hehe) and throw in the odd bit of vomiting, I am keeping bg readings then will go to specialist as my life is ****, and for years I have always been told "it's cause your a diabetic" surely that can't be the answer for everything. We all the guff we have been told by health care pro's we should all form a comedy show !

HELLO again bud, your quote of ' it's because your a diabetic' really tickled me coz I've had that response so many times as well. The thing is though a lot of the time it's actually true! For a long time, I thought the main complications of diabetes were just the usual feet, hands, eyes and kidneys. Then I started with stomach problems myself - bad indigestion, dizziness, extreme nausea. On top of that I also developed a frozen shoulder and painful joints. Each of the specialists would just blame the diabetes which really annoyed me at the time. But this website is a mine of useful information. For someone who has lived with diabetes for most of their life I realized that I knew very little about the complications which in my case all seemed to just materialise after 30 years. I would highly recommend you read the sections on Complications and their Symptoms - it certainly helped me to understand what was happening to my body, a lot more than the 'its your diabetes' explanation! But don't leave it too long before you see your doctor coz the longer you leave it the worse you will feel.

Hallloooo anybody / everybody news flash nausea stopped but so have Tramadol painkillers for my matching pair of frozen shoulders ! The very few complications I don't have yet is hair loss, on my lower legs yes but my auld heid is the envy of many a bald person ! I have had a lot of problems with my vision, sight in one eye, then boom ! No sight, but it returned to the other eye, admittedly after several vitrectomies on each eye, but it has now settled down. I once went into a major chain of opticians shops, to get the back of my eyes photographed, they gave me my money back ! I had nothing to photo, but well you have to laugh.

Hey bud,
Glad the nausea has gone. Sorry about the pair of frozen shoulders though - are you walking around like Herman Munster?
Apologies if this is a really dumb question, but are you carb counting and injecting with your meals, or just injecting twice a day?

Hi Bebo with regards to frozen shoulders, they are murder ! It must be funny watching me trying to get things from shelves in shops without lifting your arms hehe I would need plastic surgery to be as good looking as Herman !

Hi bud,
Sorry I've been busy and not popped on the forum for a while. Just checking you're feeling a bit better now - hoping you've worked out how to manage treating the frozen shoulders without causing side effects. Ouch!
I don't have diabetes, but my husband does - T1 for approx 3 yrs. He set up www.gbdoc.co.uk and www.teambloodglucose.com to try to help support people with diabetes to live fuller active lives. (I help him - so have become fairly well immersed in all things diabetes!)
With regards to erratic bloods, have you considered following a lower carb diet? A lot of people on the forum seem to low-carb. Certainly my husband finds low carb works well for him - just because there are far fewer opportunities for 'mistakes'. It doesn't suit everybody though.:)

Hi people, Bebo I take it when your husband is on low carbs his insulin intake is also correspondingly small. When I was younger and into my 20s to 30s I played all sorts of sports and trained like a fanatic , never any issues and according to my readings I did not have to take an insulin (had to test urine ) I done aerobic exercise for 5 hours a night and twice on a Sunday, aaahhh the good old days and I loved every minute of it. Does your hubby have good ketone readings ? Bye fur noo !,
