I've not heard of splitting lantus as it lasts 24hrs where as levemir has a short life in the body which is why it can be given in 2 doses. Do you know what time the hypo is accruing? Maybe worth while doing some night checks.

Speak to your diabetic team, the only time they advised me to split was when changing from taking it in the morning, to taking it at night, so that it covered me for the 24 hours without taking too much in that period, sounds to me like either you need to reduce that dose with medical advice, or you are taking too much short acting insulin last thing with not enough to eat. Until you speak to your team, maybe try having a snack at bedtime to get you through

May well help, but try reducing your single dose and see how you get on, you will have to do some 2 hourly bg checks during the night but it's worth it to get the dose right and to get a good nights sleep. If you do reduce the dose make sure your day-time levels are OK, in order to carry out basal checks during the day have a read of the following:

Lantus is split quite commonly, usually because of people experiencing night hypos. It's been found not to last 24 hours in the main, but around 18 , and even less in some people.

@Leeroy1303 , Your DSN will advise on this, sometimes a 50-50 split is still too high overnight, but it is different for each person

Really glad splitting the dose is working for you. All those on Lantus on my DAFNE course were told to split it - apparently they've recently changed their advice on Lantus and now recommend splitting the dose just like Levemir.

My diabetes specialist did this with me too, also as part of the DAFNE regime, and I've yet to have a night time hypo after nearly 12 months on split dosages.
