This may be a silly question but can type 1 diabetics, go on a no carbohydrate diet?

A "no carbohydrate" diet is almost impossible to achieve, even leafy green veg contain some carbs. So can a T1 go LoCarb? Well, yes, but you would need to adjust insulin dosage as part of the carb reduction. Many T1's find reducing carbs a good way of making sugar levels more stable and reducing their need for insulin.

there are a few low car or low carb high fat guys and girls here
this might help a bit, if you cut carbs, you need to replace the lost energy with fats/oils, most wouldn't recommend a diabetic increase their protein

Yes, although you would need to know fully how to adust your insulin..

For example if you always give yourself set amounts that your hospital told you to dose, then you will end up hypo... You need to be able to adjust your doses of any insulin that you take.

I do my own insulin as my blood sugar metre works out how much insulin to do which how many carbs I'm eating or if I need a correction to bring my blood sugar down

Take it you have the aviva expert meter. However, if you low carb you may still have to change your ratio's and background insulin doses.

Your meter is only advising according to the data that is entered into it on your current eating patterns.

As you change your diet you MAY find that your wven your correction doses change slightly.

Lower carb done me good for 30yrs T1 without diabetic complications. Advice from here for more fat totally eliminated my stomach n muscle problems. Low carber way before the terminology came in and has kept me in **** god health with bg and hba1c levels that have actually been too low at times.

As DD says, if you lower your carbs by quite a lot the bolus advisor (your bg meter) may be of no use as your ratio's will change, but back to your original question, it wouldn't be very healthy to eat a no carbohydrate diet as even salad and veggies contain carbs, however you can lower your carb intake to a level that suits you best, if you do the low-carb type 1's on here will advise you on adjusting your insulin to suit.

Okay thank you so much! I want to find a good diet to do!!!
I had a look at your profile and for 17, Because you are still growing, I wouldn't recommend a LCHF ketogenic diet, for more than 6 weeks to shift some weight. with your nurse/dietitian support. They may have something better to suggest.
LC works because you cut carbs, which cut insulin and your BG is good and you lose weight. it's win win

but there is some stuff first, like basal fasting checks and working out I:C and corrections as @donellydogs said

remember your nurse is a good friend who's job it is to help you with what you want.
I don't know how long it's been since you were on a course, but this may refresh what you learnt

There is an online course for background and an idea to it. Free to registerhttp://www.bdec-e-learning.com/

This set of workbooks are worth reading and practising working examples only of carbs and doses
