Michael Gove and his insane educational? policies!
i'm willing to try anything even if it means going through the pain barrier. There seems to be a lot of positive feedback about this diet regime which is very encouraging
I am not a scientist but the explanation made sense and the weight loss has been great although I need to lose another 2 stone 10lbs to not feel grossed out when I look in the mirror. The eat well plate doesn't make sense to me and more importantly doesn't work. Bs rockets! LCHF tastes good and I don't think I'm going to struggle to maintain. I'm not saying I not have an ice cream or a small piece of cake or a handful of crisps every now and then because I do. But not very often. Also, I don't want seconds and I only take a small handful and importantly am able to stop. Ideally I wouldn't but I am human (I think!) . How often do you test? Presumably you are getting strips free as a T1?
Big hugs and hope you feel better.

Does anyone know if diet pills would be an option or am I being naive?
slow down and relax, this site will help you out in a month, you won't need diet pills or miss injections
first, second and third, I would listen to @noblehead and get a referral to the hospital diabetic clinic

4th, this should be 10th but you have it higher.... do you feel overweight or do your scales tell you you're overweight and high BMI?
it's the dieticians job to help you with your choice of diet. either way if you reduce your carbs, you reduce your insulin, you lose weight.
LCHF is an alien concept but you replace the lost carbs with fats/oils for energy, low carb higher fat, it's like a seesaw, as the carbs go down the fats comes up

for your BG control, ask your nurse to help with 5th-8th

5th I would do basal test, that's normally what's first suggested here http://www.diabetes-support.org.uk/info/?page_id=120

Hello Jilly. You mentioned diet plls for weight loss. I was prescribed orlistat by the doctor to help with weight loss. This reacts with fat so you avoid eating any kind of fat as the reaction with the pills is very unpleasant. As a result the only way to fil up is to increase your carbohydrates. After 5 months of this I was diagnosed as diabetic. I cannot help but think that these pills contributed to my becomming diabetic. Im now on the low carb diet. I enjoy the food and I am losing weight:)

On the homehealth uk website there is a short video clip which shows you how to use the sd codefree meter which is quite useful. I was clueless so I found it very helpful.:)

To feel happy with myself I need to lose a stone and a half to 2 stone. I would have liked to have lost this in time for my holiday in 3 weeks but that's not very realistic so my next goal would be to reach my target by Christmas :)

Many thanks for posting these useful links. I will take the time to read through them. I do not possess bathroom scales any longer. I leave it up to my diabetic nurse to weigh me. However I can tell by my clothes and appearance and I feel disgusting. The LCHF diet is most definitely so,ething I shall be following. :) :) :)

I must admit I am sceptical about the use of diet pills for diabetic control. I have seen herbal pills advertised and wondered if this would be a better option. I will take this up with my diabetic nurse this week.

Can I third what Nigel says about getting an appointment with a specialist. You have specific needs especially with the Addison's, diabetes and hypothyroid, which an endocrinologist should be more aware of than a GP. Hopefully you might also be able to get a referral to a specialist dietitian who can take all the factors into account.
I thought I would look up if there was anything specific that people with Addison's have to be aware of re diet and one thing caught my attention.

This site says that mineral balance (particular sodium/potassium) is important http://livingwithaddisondisease.blogspot.fr/2011/04/dehydration-and-low-adrenal-function.html
In the 'owners manual', of Addinson's UK the diet section of their handbook reinforces the point saying that people with Addison's
have a tendency to lose salt quicker than other people and to retain potassium
http://www.addisons.org.uk/info/manual/diet.pdf
The diet info certainly suggests cutting refined carbs but you should be aware that changing to a very low carb diet can also increase salt loss .
. (this link is from a low carb advocate) http://jonnybowden.com/salt-and-the-low-carb-diet/

This is where you need to talk to someone who has the knowledge and experience to personalise your diet for you.

Thank you for taking the trouble to check out this info. Much appreciated. It certainly makes sense to get myself referred to a proper specialist, both endocrine and dietician. I never feel fully confident after seeing my gp I must admit. They always seem rather vague

@Jilly986

Great people here with great advice.

@phoenix advice helped me enormously. I different to others, as I been slim and a lower carber for 50 years+. My trouble was (and only realised due to Phoenix advice) that I didn't eat enough fat....

I didn't even realise I was a low carber till coming on here. The advice from here has eliminated my painfully excruciating leg and thigh pain, and hugely improved eliminated my stomach problems too. GP's and consultants mystified for years and never gave the correct advice to me.

Lower carbing can definitely get you slimmer and keep you slimmer...

Good luck... Ps.. Do get yourself to a hospital consultant... GP's are General Practitioners and specialise in nothing much.. Just medicines generally... Endo's are much more clued up....

I'm so pleased I found this forum. You are right about people being friendly and so willing to share advice. I've been given the kick in the butt I needed. 24 hours ago I was in despair and just felt like no one understood. Friends are sympathetic but really dont know where I'm coming from. I felt very isolated. But now already I feel motivated and know just what to do. Taking back control for one.

I think that's why people are so friendly. We have all been in your position! For most people the weight slides off. Keep us posted and good luck! Big hug!

OMG Jilly ... are u saying you are not under an endocrinologist? I cannot believe you have 3 autoimmune disorders and you are only being treated by a GP!

I was put under an endo 17 years ago when I first got Hashimoto's, was then diagnosed with Addisons Disease a year or so later. Diabetes and Addisons Disease are extremely complex medical conditions and you need to be under a specialist's care. @ShellyC23 has Addisons, Hypothyroidism and Type 1.5, she may be able to share her experiences with you. Let us know how you get on :)

It seems so. The responses I have had from everyone on here about this have given me a wake up call. Luckily I have appointments with both my gp and diabetic nurse this week. I am going to INSIST on a referal. I'm getting the 'out of sight, out of mind' vibe from them at the moment. I feel very determined about this. Together with starting the LCHF regime

Can anyone advise whether it's ok to include drinks such as pepsi max, diet pepsi, diet lemonade on the LCHF diet? I tend to drink these more than any other but the contain sweeteners which the diet says to avoid. Are there any thirst quenching suitable alternatives? :) ;)

Well I've started my new regime. Just eaten scrambled eggs with grated cheese on the top. I know it doesn't sound very creative but I enjoyed it and eggs are my favourite food in every shape and form. Just wish I could perfect my poached eggs! Anyway in exactly 2 weeks I will be flying over to the States for 2 weeks. My friend of 44 years lives there in a town called Montgomery which is in Texas. I'm pretty sure I will be faced with an abundance of carbs at every turn. Texans really do go in for huge portions. I will have been on my regime (and stuck to it) for 2 weeks by then. I would be devastated if I let myself falter so soon into the regime. It's going to be a stumbling block but I'm determined to rise to the challenge. Just keep that avatar picture of a year ago in my mind. I can do this! :)
