Hemochromotosis

I have just been told that I have hemochromotosis as well as type 1 diabetes. Has anyone been diagnosed with this? I'm so confused, upset and I am in limbo. It's all very frustrating! Any advice/recommendations/help much appreciated.

Hi, my dad, brother and sister have all been diagnosed with this, but I am the only one with actual symptoms but my GP said I didn't need the test as my Iron Levels are monitored with my regular diabetes blood testing.

My dad's iron levels are high and he was referred first of all to a gastro doctor, then a liver specialist, and now for the only treatment for this condition apparently which is to have blood removed regularly until your iron levels return to normal, sounds simple and easy enough.

He has got the same symptoms as me though, he always looks a bit tanned, has sore joints and a fatty liver. He does not have diabetes though whereas I do.

If I get any more info from him I will let you know.

as if type 1 diabetes isn't hard enough to control at the best of times having another illness is just too much for most of us but it just shows how strong we can be getting on top of it .I know exactly how you are felling I suffer from mal absorbsion and pancriatitus and I hafto deal with that on top of diabetes and I have regularly wanted to give up and have had thoughts which has not helped my condition and a recent admition to the hospital has helped a little but you just got to think that it will get better in the end and that there's more like us out there who will also love to share and help each other when we can . STAY STRONG
