Hi, since getting diagnosed as type 2, I have been watching my carb intake, so basically cut out pasta( among other things).
I made a slow cooker meatballs in tomato sauce today, and decided we would have some of the dried fusilli that is still in the cupboard.
It comes in a 500g bag and it says it contains 5 portions. so 5 x 100g portions. so far so good.
The nutritional info is per 100g cooked as directed, 100g Dry became approx. 240g when cooked as directed.
Now at last is my question, does it mean 100g before being cooked or after being cooked?
Sorry if this has been covered somewhere else. I did search but couldn't find anything.

does it not say on the pack. I would take it as the dried weight in absence of any further info

It usually says if it is dry or cooked. What was the value? If it is about 75g it will be dry.
If I cook it very al dente it has less effect on my BG.

If it's peer 100g cooked, I'd say that's it's cooked weight, not raw.

Just says 31.3 carbs per 100g cooked as directed, doesn't specify whether 100g of cooked or dry weight

umm yes still a little ambiguous.
is that 100g of dried and then cooked as directed is 31.3g or is it 100g of the cooked weight is 31.3g

I see your dilemma

Thanks for that, it makes sense then that the 31.3 g of Carbs must be from 100g of the cooked pasta.
Wish the packaging was a little clearer

yes quite carb expensive - double that of bread. You could make it a little better by cooking it then letting it go cold and reheating it.

So it works out that, if 100g of dried pasta is considered a portion. Then 240g of cooked pasta is a portion, I couldn't have eaten 240g of pasta even when I was 18 stone:D that's 75g of carbs from 100g of dried once you have cooked it:( I cooked 116g of dried which made 279g, we had half each so I had 43.8g carbs just in the pasta :arghh: Slightly more than the 18.1g carbs it would have been if only it was calculated from the dry weight.
Still it is only a one off so no harm done , a little of what you like does you good so they say:hungry:
