Cholesterol and BG

Before I was told, I would eat everything had a cholesterol of 200, BG fasting 138 . Doctor said try diet only no meds dumpt all the junk food, processed meats, bread, rice, potato, for 3 months and re tested cholesterol gone up to 235 BG fasting 103. I dont understand why Cholesterol has gone up, the doc said drop the eggs and cheese. I am 5ft 8 71 kg exercise 6 days a week. Stopped the eggs and cheese now, although I know many people say its ok, but have to try something A normal day now would be Greek yoghart with almond nuts and a few blueberrys, lunch small steak or duck breast with veg, evening maybe lean pork with fresh toms, spinach garlic and onions. no snacks in between. I live in Thailand ,and get all my info from the net, but that can be a minefield. Is 103 good? how can i get it better? and what value is OK 2 hours after a meal 1 site says BGF 90-130, 2 hours after meal up to 180 seems a bit strange to me. anyway all help welcome.

103 is ok for fasting "Normal: 3.9 to 5.5 mmols/l (70 to 100 mg/dl)"

Here is your pre-post prandials
Non-diabetic before eating 4.0 (72 mg/dl) to 5.9 (106 mg/dl) mmol/L under 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dl) after eating

your triglycerides should have dropped, hopefully under 1.5 with your HDL rising and up/down on your LDL, but low trig <1 means the ldl are fluffy and not small dense

I'll let you do the conversions Lee, but here in the UK (not sure what they would be in Thailand) they want all diabetics to aim for the following cholesterol targets:

  • Your total cholesterol level should be below 4.0mmol/l.
  • LDL levels should be less than 2.0mmol/l.
  • HDL levels should be 1.0mmol/l or above in men and 1.2mmol/l or above in women.
  • Triglyceride levels should be 1.7mmol/l or less.

your Dr should be very happy with your change of lifestyle. IMO I wouldn't drop the cheese and eggs altogether..porkfat/lard is a good fat, so is duckfat, butter, olive oil, coconut oil and peanut oil... cut all grain oil and margarine/trans fats

if I cut my carbs back,I replace them with good fats and oils, keep my protein normal range, lots of non starch veggie, beans pulses peas

use a food counter like my fitness pal to do a dietary count of carbs fats and protein, there are often some surprises

your trigs are very good...in an ideal world you would have more HDL, omega 3 from fish, nuts, flaxseed..use the healthy fats/oils...from memory this also swaps for some LDL

I take a low dose statin for vascular health which also drops my total cholesterol/ldl, ...there is plenty on both sides of the argument, you need to make up your own mind

this is hard core ketogenic LCHF where the carb intake is under 50g a day

Thanks for reply and help, I found the video very interesting, Next test 30 Dec so will see what I am then. last night I checked 104 had my meal, small salmon, small lean pork, spinach, onion, kale, fresh tom, mushrooms. 2 hours after tested 108, happy with that.
