Hi all - newbie so apols if this is in the wrong place.

Type 1 for 28years (36) and I really think a Cgm would make a difference to my diabetes management. I appreciate the unit cost of a Dexcom is high but has anyone been able to get the 'strips'/sensor thingies on an nhs prescription? And if so, how?

Many thanks

Ross

My GP tried for me due to my Addison's disease but the short rude answer from the ccg was lots of diabetes use steroids so why is she different? Their medical knowledge beggars belief so didn't bother appeal it. I just fund the sensors myself. Have now learnt how to make a sensor last for at least 4 weeks so brings the cost down to about £12/week.
You wont get any of the cgm equipment on prescription, the money is taken out of a separate fund and paid to the supplier directly.

The cheapest way is to get a Vibe pump for free to use as the receiver and then stretch the sensors to 4 weeks, 6 weeks even. That's what a few of us do, including CarbsRok.

CGM on NHS prescription is probably rarer than pancreatic islet transplants.
