Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem. I have had my Group 2 licence revoked but am fighting the decision because all the criteria they assess you on relates to hypoglycaemia and I do not have low numbers as I am hyper. The only reason that put down for revoking was they said I didn't have 3 months readings which was completely untrue. I contested the decision in ~August and am still waiting. I've lost 12 months work because of this but they don't care.

Seems a long time to be waiting for a decision Raybo, all I would suggest is you ring the DVLA and ask them what is going on, I had cause to ring them earlier this year after taking a long-time to renew my car licence and they were very helpful on the phone,

I've e-mailed them every month and always had the same reply "it's in the queue for review". I ended up writing direct to the CEO and the Secretary of State and finally they've reviewed it and now they want more info from my GP. When I phoned the customer services he was very helpful but of course he's not the decision maker.

It's worrying though that no-one can/will tell me why they use the same criteria for hypo and hyper.......so much for the EU directive.

That question has been asked many times before on the forum, they don't seem to be too concerned about high bg levels and are more concerned about hypo's.

Hopefully once your gp has responded to their request things should get moving, do come and say how you get on.

I had readings going back 7 months but for some reason the consultant said that I didn't.

I had a letter from DVLA yesterday which was a copy of what they have just sent my GP asking for more info so that "consideration can be given to inviting re-application for a Group 2 licence subject to further medical enquiry".

They have chosen to completely ignore the fact that I am contesting their original decision and are trying to put as many obstacles as possible in the way. It took them 6 months last time to revoke my licence during which time it was suspended and I couldn't work.

I wrote to them yesterday and gave notice that I am lodging an appeal in the Magistrates' Court.

Please read, share and sign this petition to raise awareness to the EU of how their directive is being implemented by UK government. Without your support diabetics will continue to lose their licences without individual assessment. Please sign the petition today. http://tinyurl.com/A4DD-petition

I've done the necessary paperwork and the appeal is going in on Monday.
Interesting thing I found while researching is that the requirement for 3 months reading is NOT actually law or a regulation, it is only advice to the DVLA from a panel, and the DVLA have discretion if there is some reason why there are readings missing - eg with me the chemist did not have the test strips in stock. Amazing what you learn when you dig deep enough.

B/S. Lies. Sensationalism. Smugness. Not enough money. Anyone who makes being a diabetic HARDER!

Hi I too have the dreaded revocation curse and have heard so many horror stories not all are true
Get GP or specialist on board and get a letter sent to DVLA and reapply for your licence. They must say you are fit to drive and represent no risk to other road users. GOOD LUCK!
I will continue to contest the revocation.

Hi, I contested the revocation in August and got my GP to look at my meter and then write to the DVLA supporting me, which he was happy to do and didn't even make a charge for it as I know some do.

The DVLA simply ignore the fact you are contesting the revocation and put it in the queue to be looked at as an application to re-apply. It took them nearly 3 months just to look at it again.

I know that the main aim is to ensure you run out of time to appeal, so I'm making sure the papers are lodged well before the cut off date.

My main concern though is that I am not hypoglycaemic, I cannot see why they use the same criteria and worryingly DVLA will not even explain why they do it and it seems that no-one can make them. My MP wrote to ministers asking this question and it was just passed on to the DVLA to deal with!

Talk about going round in circles. Good luck in your quest.

This all sounds so fimilar. This is my concern, this is happening to so many diabetics and some people just give in and think they have to accept this awful way they have been treated. Like you when researching I too discovered that the way the EU directive is implemented by out UK government is not the way it should be implemented. The DVLA should consider each case individually and hence use the directive if the individual is uncontrolled and deemed unsafe by their medical professional. However without them considering each case seperately, how would they know this? My MP has also written to the DVLA, alongside consultant letters and I have also had a lot of personal letters of support sent to them, a lot of which medically professionals that I work with. Please do keep sharing this petition even if you already have, the more people that are aware and sign the more likely this stupid, discriminative directive will have to be reviewed by our government. Thanks Helen.

I don't know why they don't believe ya own consultant as he reads my meter but the DVLA want u go c their independant constant to me it's all red tape u av to travel to where they say this costs u petrol and yr in bout 10 min we r all discriminated I think and yr own go Wudnt fill in the medical if he thought u wernt fit to drive first they lifted the ban in 2011 I waited nearly 12mths to get my licence the second time round to renew it when the 12mths was up was 7 mths no work so no money cumin in dint know wha tney expect pay ya bills with but they arnt bothered and don't rush

Well, appeal papers now lodged with the Magistrates' Court and they were phoning DVLA today to tell them. Just a case of waiting for a court date now.

That is very true.

Completely disagree with poking bears with very sharp sticks, but I think in this case the bear had it coming!!
