This is one of my great fears!
I would be unable to tell whoever tends me that I can't have glucose or glucagon injection and they would do it, because that is their training and the resulting overproduction of insulin/glucagon would have on me.
I. Do wear a medical bracelet. Is that enough?
I have given explicit instructions to those at work and family.

I would definitely get a medical alert bracelet, if I were you.
Your situation is so rare, alerting any medical staff would be really useful!

If you have read through the thread you will see that there are different tests to see which hypoglycaemia she has. They are not intrusive and she will be monitored, the specialists are very good at diagnosis and prognosis and there are new drugs that will help and she may be able to eat a normal healthy low carb diet, that is what I would be having a look at next. Her dietary needs are really so important to being healthier and for her day to day activities. There is no reason why after prognosis that she will be able to have a normal childhood.
If you have any more questions I will try and answer them. Or someone else will.

@Brunneria
What do you think about a post that defines reactive hypoglycaemia to greet newbies that show symptoms.
As @daisy1 does when greeting diabetes newbies.
It would save a lot of confusion when and if we have our own forum.
I'm useless at tech stuff, maybe help from the techs and moderators could set this up.
What do you think?

I think it's a really great idea. Thank you. :)
What do you think @Giverny and @daisy1 ?
I would be happy to have a bash at writing something, provided everyone is willing to constructively criticise it until we have a workable draft.

Cut yourself some slack! ;)
This time of year has to be the worst possible for making dietary changes.

Maybe you'll feel so bad, by New Year, that it'll be easy! ;););)

Sorry mistaken ID!
Until you have seen a specialist and had the tests you can do a few things that won't matter in the long run. Control is the key. Start properly in the new year. And keep trying to get a referral you need it!

Hi Guys
Hope you's had a good Christmas and happy new year. I'm back looking some advice on Monday and Tuesday I took blurred/double vision made driving very difficult had to cover one eye couldn't focus so rang optician went got eyes tested expecting to get re prescription and glasses. During the test I couldn't get the dot into one dot and was seeing two the optician asked re health I said about waiting to go to hospital and he got me to test my blood there and it was normal but he seemed to think that fluctuations in sugar level can affect sight like that and is writing a letter to my doctor to advise it to be checked when at hospital. Now I've been fine the last two days but I'm really concerned that my license could be taken off me? Anybody any advice about any of this? I need my car for work so I'm very concerned what could happen thanks in advance x

Hi,

I believe that it is only diabetics on insulin who are likely to have problems with the DVLA - and then only if they have hypos that need assistance from other people to get the BG back up.
But of course, you shouldn't be driving while you have vision problems!

Big fluctuations in BG do cause blurry vision. It is to do with the sugar entering the eyeball and altering the refractive index of the fluid. I think. Anyone know better?

I have had it myself, once, when I was given an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test, and my BG shot up hugely, and then dropped again. My vision was blurry for about 48 hrs, during which I wasn't safe to drive.

Haven't had it since, even on the very rare occasion that my BG gets higher than 10.

So, in answer to your query:
Your optician is probably right that the vision prob was caused by raised BG.
But it will subside - so long as you keep your BG at lower, more stable levels.

The real question is what had you been eating prior to the blurry eye episode?
:)

And yes, had a great new year and Xmas, thanks!
