Type 2's get them prescribed too. Not just type 1's. I'm only prescribed 100 a month which is not nearly enough but under the statements made in this, I must not need them. My bad!

Not all T2's get them prescribed that is quite rare My T2 husband was given a meter and has prescribed strips and lancets at the moment but his doctor did say they would be stopped after a while so he really does not know how long he will get them for When they stop he will have to buy them so will probably go on to the Codefree meter as the strips are the cheapest

Yes I should have been clearer and said some type 2's get them prescribed. I don't think it's that rare. I know plenty of type 2's who get more strips than me on prescription. It depends on area and doctor.

My son is one of the lucky ones, we have no problem getting blood glucose testing strips and we also get a very good supply of the blood ketone testing strips, only yesterday I rang the diabetic specialist nurse at the surgery and she arranged a mobile meter for us with all the strips and lancets. When I have a spare box of the ketone strips, I put them back in the system and give them to the nurses at the diabetic clinic at the hospital, as they struggle to have enough when their patients are poorly and apparently some doctors don't like putting them on a prescription. I don't sell them and never would and I find it amazing that you can generalise and say that it's the type 1 diabetics who are selling their life saving supplies.

Pasta, sorry to me it's vile, yeuch lol (and full of nasty carbs)
I'm sure if it is individuals with diabetes flogging their scripts to feed some habit whether it be for money, drugs, gambling or plain old greed then surely the NHS Fraud Department should speak to these people. YES and some very severe Type 2s are going without because of these selfish people. :grumpy:

I found this thread very interesting. I am diabetic type 2 and was on insulin. The fear of a hypo destroyed my life so much I took myself off it. Meaning I had to test very few times. Despite cancelling my repeat prescription, the pharmacy kept automatically delivering strips to me, forcing me to cancel them again with the pharmacy and also to instruct my doctor to cancel them, which eventually worked. I just sorted out all my unused prescription medication to take back to the pharmacy, as I always do. However, I could not help but think what a waste it was going to be for them to destroy 14 boxes of test strips. Especially as my meter that is compatible with them is now broken. I decided to sell them cheaply to people that need them and donate the revenue to my favorite charity, but I was worried that I would be breaking some law, hence my search for this topic online. After reading all these comments it seems that the only option I have is to return them to the pharmacy and have them destroyed. Seems a pity.

Oh BaliRob, I so wish they were. Unfortunately they are GlucoRX Nexus strips. Could you change your meter to a Nexus one? If you could I would be happy to send you the lot for a nominal donation to charity and post and packaging. (and maybe a free holiday in Bali - LOL )

What a shame - the only meter I can purchase in Indonesia seems to be AcuCheck which does not have very good reports from some members of this forum. If you wait a little while someone else will certainly buy them from you here. Thx for such a speedy reply. Liked the 'holiday in Bali' joke - believe me Bali is nothing like you might imagine - perhaps for a very short holiday but not like me stuck here for 7 years.

Could you not get a Nexus meter from e-bay? Or we could arrange for me to purchase one here and mail it out to you with the strips. Would love to be able to help you. My email address is [email protected] also did you see my comment about needles and lancets? Maybe I could even BRING them to you in Bali ha ha.

I don't know where you seen £100 for one box of test strips. I've seen some for £13, £10 and £20 for two boxes... I wish us Type 1's could say we sell them but we don't I can barely last on the ones I'm given. I get approximately 100 every month and I struggle with that.

It never even crossed my mind to sell surplus strips. but this thread has given me the idea. I was given 200 strips for a meter which I hate, and I was going to carry on using it (bruising myself stupid in the process) to avoid wasting the strips. I'd rather they went to a Type 2 who needs them, but I don't know any to give them to.

Although to be honest I'd rather give them away, so if any Type 2s here use a Glucamen LX, PM me!

When I was using a One Touch machine, I would regularly buy strips from ebay. Many times the boxes were sticky from where the prescription label had been taken off or they even had traces of the label on them. Part of me would hope that I would have bought them from new mums who had gestational diabetes, but I'm sure they came from Type 1's who were selling them.

I haven't bought any of these for about six months, since I was put on a Wavesense Jazz. The strips I have bought from ebay for this meter show no traces of prescription labels.

The sticky residue may have come from a label that read "faulty batch do not use." ;)

Interesting thread by the way.
I'm waiting for a Clinitest kit to wind up on Antiques roadshow myself... :p

if your nurse isn't giving you enough strips and 100 a month isn't enough..get a referral to a hospital diabetic team, they will tell your nurse how many you need
