I feel fine just peed off!!!! I put 3 units in of novorapid and half an hour later it was 18. I don't abuse my body with drink drugs or ****** food and I'm worried about the consequences in the future!!!!
Hello there,
Not too sure how long you've been type 1 but I have been on insulin for 33 years.
I do not abuse what I eat but fundamentally I eat what I like. Over the years I have amassed a great deal of knowledge of roughly how much insulin I need for the meal I am eating. I do not go too overboard on how much or how little carbs I eat. I tend to judge my insulin by the actual meal or snack I am having.
My highest HBA during the past 5/6 years has been 7.5 and my best was 6.7 (not sure what that is in the new readings but its not bad)
I went out a few days back for a meal out and would normally have 14/16 units of novorapid but as I had a starter, a main and also a pudding I injected 20 units. My levels before I went to bed were good. I have controlled my diabetes like this now for about 6 or so years and even my consultant has told me to continue doing as I am. There was a sign in the hospital that stuck with me, it simply said "know your diabetes better than your Dr" Mind you I do have 33 years experience that helps me do this.
It does sound though that you may need to look at your basal dosage as a couple of others have stated.
It is an awful illness but try not to let it get you down. Use your own knowledge. If I have a fry up once a week I will inject 8/10 units of novorapid opposed to the normal 4/6 I would take if I was having cereal and a piece of toast. Sometimes I will inject 5 times a day instead of 4.
I have a cold at the moment and I am giving myself 2/4 units more of novorapid before I eat to keep my levels close to what they need to be.
Not sure if this helps in any way but use the fact that you live with it daily to your advantage. I used to abuse my body for 20 years but i have been sober now for 11 and although I have some complications my diabetes control is as good as I think it can be.
Experiment but be careful obviously.
