I have been reading the pregnancy forum and it all seems to be about type 1, which i don't mind and like reading.

I was just wondering if there was any type 2 ladies who are having or had a baby, just to get advice, did you suffer hypos? I'm on insulin twice a day but have not had one yet luckily. I am not pregnant yet, only just started trying as numbers are right.

Thanks

I have type 2 and am 15 weeks tomorrow. I've had a few lows, but not the way the type 1 ladies have.

Congratulations. Are you managing to keep within your targets 5 or below before meals and below 7, 1 hour after?

I became type 2 when I was pregnant with my son if I can help with anything feel free to ask I had a few hypos from what I can remember but as long as you eat regular and check your level while on insulin you should be fine x

I just wondered if blood levels changed in pregnancy, if you needed more insulin or less as it progressed. I'm just worrying I'm not even pregnant yet. Taking a test on sat as that's when I'm due on.

@vicjord, I've been carefully watching carbs and haven't had many problems with highs during the day. I had my 15 week check up today and they said I must be spiking overnight. They increased my Levemir going forward. They also said more insulin will be required as we move forward. I workout 5 days a week but my baby is still measuring on the large side.

I'm 18 weeks and type 2. I was diet controlled until this week, my levels started to rise (around 40% of my readings were above the recommended recordings). I am now on Metformin, I have to have 1 x 500mg once a day for 4 days, then up to 2 x daily, then up to 3 x daily after a further 4 days. I've dramatically changed my diet after seeing a nutritionist 3 weeks ago, but am personally struggling with the morning sickness and loss of appetite for alot of foods! X

I have just found out I am pregnant, just coming up 6 weeks along so very early days. We planned it, so went to see the Specialist Diabetes Team and I was switched to insulin last year to bring in better control before we started trying. I'm currently on 2x Metformin with breakfast and dinner and Novorapid with food and Levemir at nightime.

I've stepped up my testing a bit since I had a positive test and have had a few hypos, but nothing major and generally my levels aren't too bad, although I am struggling to stay within the targets a little bit, particularly at breakfast time.

I've put my Levermir units up to 7 in the last few weeks to try and bring them down first thing which seems to have done the trick, it's the after food check that its spiking a little - work to be done!

My nurse did make a dietician referral last year when I saw her, but I didn't feel I needed it at the time - I may well be changing my mind on that now!

I'm so happy it's finally happening, it's taken us 7 months to fall, but papping myself at the same time with the added worry of having Type 2. We should be having our first appt with the community midwife next week, which will hopefully trigger the referrals into the specialist team - a nervous time all round!

I've only just started trying last month, took a test on sat but was negative. Didn't expect to get pregnant the first month tho. I'm glad it's happened for you. Are you on a low carb diet?

Generally yes - I have my naughty moments but I am paying a bit closer attention now.

It's breakfast that is winding me up the most - I never have been 1 for eating much at all first thing and usually have to have been up and about for a couple of hours before I can even think of eating anything, by which time I am normally at work. Up until now, I've either had a couple of breakfast biscuits or couple of slices of wholemeal toast on occasion. But I have been off this last week, so have been able to eat at home, i have even switched to all bran cereal (blurgh!) this week as opposed to bran flakes as I have read they are even better and I had a spike from 5.6 to 11.8 within the hour! My 2 hour readings r miles better though.

I am going to play with some option this week, like others have suggested, such as injecting before I eat or upping my units and snacking a little hit to avoid the hypo.

One steep learning curve that's for sure!

To be honest, I didn't know about carbs until recently, so I'm still learning & trialing, before hand I lived on rice and potatoes, so it's a huge change for me & my lifestyle. Also as my job is pretty full on, I have limited time to eat, which is where I'm struggling the most, I normally have a sandwich or microwave meal, but since seeing my nutritionist I'm trying to change that, I'm sorry you have a negative this month, I'm sure you will have good news once your body is ready. Much love x

Carbs just make me feel really sleepy and rough so i cut most of them out except bread wich i love. I have ww danish and i limit it to 1 slice per day.

My period is a couple of days late so there could still be a chance.

It will happen when it is meant too Vicjord so stick with it, although it's hard to be patient - believe me my husband knows all too well! If anything, if u r still getting to grips with the levels, it won't necessarily b a bad thing if takes a few months, as will set ur mind at rest a bit more when it does. Or atleast it has for me.

I think it would definitely help if you have "grips" of your diet before falling pregnant, you can then work around your changing body & needs once the time comes, there is nothing harder than doing it the other way round, trust me .. X

I have got my Hba1c down to 46 which the preconception doctor said was fine to start trying. I've managed to keep within range but its hard exercise definitely helps.

Hi ladies,

Just thought I would let u know what my experience of my first appt with the community midwife went - confirmed 6 weeks along, lots of form filling, urine test, blood tests and information to take in.

I have been on Folic Acid since we started trying but have started taking Vit D tablets since we booked in at the Drs last week too. The midwife has said I will need to start taking aspirin after 12 weeks to rescue the chance of preeclampsia, which apparently is lucky ones with diabetes are a high risk of developing.

Referrals being made today to specialist diabetes team, so I will no doubt have them dragging me in too in the next week or so.

Have been watching my levels before and an hr after eating for last 4-5 days and apart from the occasional little blip, I am meeting the target of under 7.5 an hour after eating - hurrah!

Hi Whats the Vit D for? my preconception clinic told me my levels have to be 5 or below before meals and first thing in the morning and 7 or below 1hr after meals which I think is quite hard to achieve. what targets have you been told? might be different areas. I'm in Manchester.

I was told ages ago to b honest as my Nurse went through it when we first started trying months ago, but I think it something like under 6 before and less than 7.5 within an he but I could b slightly off there - no doubt I will have it drummed into me when I c them next. But it is hard work!

Vitamin D is because we don't get enough sunshine in the UK so everyone is usually lacking, but taking it in pregnancy helps with bone development for the baby

what was your earliest symptoms of pregnancy? so I know what to look out for next month (or the month after). I've read on some website and it says some women know the day after they've conceived. I don't really believe that.

To be honest, I didn't have that many before I tested. My boobs were really tender, but often were before my period anyway, so had been caught out with that symptom for a few months before I eventually fell. I guess the only thing I could say when I thought about it was that I was a little bit hungrier and tired than normal and didn't crave the **** I normally did in the run up to coming on.

I've still not had any sickness or nausea - I have everything crossed it stays that way - but appetite has definitely ramped up and feeling much more tired than usual.
