Hi The thread title is probably over much but I am worried. I will give a brief history and what is happening now. My mother had 1 Leg, My father lost both of his legs, my Grand father on my fathers side lost both his legs, my father was diagnosed as diabetic towards the end of his life, my understanding is my mothers leg was lost due to an accident when she was 3yrs, my father and grand father was to poor circulation, so i think you can understand where my fear comes from.
Approx a year ago i went to my doctor and told him that I may be diabetic, described my symptoms and a friend who was newly diagnosed as diabetic and had a meter, he took his own reading and after a little bit of prompting he persuaded me to try a reading, my reading at the time was quite high (i can't remember what it was), and he suggested that i saw my doctor, I was given a fasting blood test and cholesterol test, A week later I went back for the results, my cholesterol was high, but i was not Diabetic, needless to say I was relieved.
Since then my old doctor has retired and I changed doctors, I did not see my new doctor until I had a swollen left foot, saw the doctor and he took one look at my foot and asked me if I was diabetic, I told him about the test and that i was not, he gave me a look of disbelief and told me that I had typical diabetics feet, he then looked back on my notes and in large red letters it said I was diabetic ( you can imagine my surprise). He checked my swollen foot and told me that I had a swelling on an old scar on my ankle, arranged for me to have another blood test etc., The result was I'm diabetic type 2, Okay now I know, that was 2 months ago, the swelling on my ankle has turned into a diabetic ulcer, (I have never felt such pain as I have with this). The swelling went down after a course of antibiotics (3 weeks worth). Flew to Germany for the opening night of my exhibition and returned. The swelling has returned, so now I'm on another course of antibiotics (the ulcer is still there).
The reason for my worry... the right foot has started to swell and I get spells of a tunnel vision in my left eye. with my family history i do not want to lose my legs, my vision is very important to me as I am a fine art artist. Is the swelling something that goes with being diabetic and the tunnel vision normal for a diabetic and can something be done for my vision
Really I think I want reassurance

You are having a rough time, are you in the UK? have you been referred to a hospital consultant clinic?
do you have a blood test meter, a lot use http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14045524.php because the strips are cheaper.

You don't mention what your recent blood test results were? Perhaps your blood sugar is still too high which would encourage infection?
