I didn't do shakes I did reduced amounts of normal food. The advantage of the shakes is that you get all of your vitamins and minerals

Please could someone tell me what you are meant to eat for breakfast and dinner on the Newcastle diet? I looked at various shakes but they were all either loaded with carbohydrates or sugar. Does just greatly restricting calorie intake work as well as the suggested shakes?

I'd like to do it but think I would struggle to know what to eat. I am intrigued though. I have lost a fair bit of weight since diagnosis which allowed me to come off all meds including insulin, but I know I still have belly fat to get rid of. Maybe this would be the final push I need as although my levels are now very normal, if I relax my diet, they rise again.
I have used meal replacement and also reduced amounts of normal foods. First instance did Total food replacement using Lipotrim. That brought BG levels into non-diabetic range, even though I still had a lot of weight to lose. Next used foods such as mushrooms, boiled egg for breakfast, homemade veg soup for lunch, homemade veg curry for dinner, small amount of low fat protein each day, e.g. fish or chicken. Currently using Shake that Weight VLCD products. These are low carb meal replacements, with a good variety such as porridge, soups, shakes and muesli bars. They were recommended to me by forum member @paulins, and I am very grateful to her, because they are working very well. With these you can have a low calorie meal as well as the products but still keep to less than 800 calories a day.

Hope this helps.

I just watched/listened to the lecture, fascinating and very very important! this should be communicated as widely as possible!

I think I am an example of the lower end of the scale where weight gain on a thin, low BMI frame has pushed me into T2!

However I have dropped from around 15st to 11st 10lb around 22% (BMI 22) set against the studies findings of 15% being effective and whilst I have ok HbA1C (6.0ish) I still have the impaired insulin response and continue to take 2000mg Metformin a day!

I have dropped my weight through endurance sport (Triathlon) and calorie deficit over around a two year period (Not 8 weeks) and I am fitter than I have ever been with a measured body fat content of around 10 to 12% and a resting heart rate of around 45 Bpm

I can get no sense from my GP and they will not refer me to specialist and I have some questions that maybe someone here can help me with?

1. Can you become exercise resistant?
2. Is it possible with my stats above that I still have a fatty liver and Pancreas?
3. Could Metformin now be interfering with my Liver functioning properly?

Many thanks for reading and I am hopeful of some insights?

All the best

Graeme

Dunno. Strange question.
So, can I be clear...you did the Newcastle Diet but did not use shakes...you created your own two meals?

I think you may be asking me that question if so yes I ate normal food just small amounts and exercising lots. No shakes... In fact at the time I knew nothing of prof taylor's work.
