There can be a genetic link via family(s) .
Possibly hereditary with some generations unfortunately .

Both my greatgrandmother (type1) and grandmother (type2) then me (aged 46) .
After pneumonia and septis infections .

I was diagnosed Type 1 at 31 years old.
My uncle was type 1 and apparently my Gran was, uncles mother, but she died when my mum and uncle were quiet young, also my granddaughter was diagnosed at 2 1/2 years. Apologises, I have just noticed it's Type 2, doh lol.

I was about 30 when I was diagnosed - I've always felt sure that there is a hereditary element as all of my family, except my sister, are type 2s, although I was the youngest at diagnosis. I suspect that my relatively early development was related to the gob-loads of weight I gained when pregnant.

T2D runs in my family. Mom got T2D when she was 45, dad got T2D when he was 52. Both mat and pat grand parents are T2D. Mom died of T2D complications. I am the eldest and am NOT bitten yet. My younger bros and sisters all got T2D around 32 to 40 years of their age. We are all obese, in fact I was born big and very obese at one stage.

But I tried to reduce weight through sheer determination, but lost my battle on 3 occasions - at ages 19, 27 and 34. Now 47, for the last 2 years I am doing exercises and diet control, not sure about my winning this round of weight loss battle. What basically happening with me is - body wants to hold on to its weight and fat. No matter what exercises or diet I do. I am reading on internet and it is mentioned that insulin resistance is one of the reasons for not losing the weight. But I am trying. For me it is like a war to keep my BMI at 23.5 and Body fat at 18%.

So this is me.

I was diagnosed last year age 44 by accident when being tested for something completely unrelated! Both my parents are T2 along with my dads mom and my moms sister cousin and 91 year old aunt (although I'm unsure of their diagnosis ages, I think I'm probably the youngest - so much for all those years trying to diet)

Obesity and T2D run in the family, on my mother's side. My grandmother was diagnosed in her sixties, my mother and sister in their fifties, and me just now, at 44. It feels too early! Though, with the family history and my PCOS, I expected to develop diabetes at some point, just not yet.

Obesity is not hereditary. Although it's possible eating/cooking habits are passed on.
no one is lean in my family up to 3 generations. We are all vegetarians, BUT eat lots of rice and use good amount of cooking oil in food prep. Grand parents [medical docs and very physically active till death] got T2D at 80+ years of age, did not suffer much. Parents [school teachers, not that physically active]got early, and they suffered a lot.

my siblings[t2d] are executives, mostly confined to office / computer - not active at all. My siblings and my parents were consuming lot of coke, pop-corn etc after coming to US and this in addition to rice and oil. They put on lots of weight.

Good or bad, I had to stay away from family due locations of my job. Thankfully I worked in un-polluted places and avoided job stress, did not aspire on big jumps or promotions.

I have my blood work scheduled for next week Friday. Let us see.

I am almost 39 (July)

18 months ago my blood sugar was 4.5. No sign of any issue

Last week it was 20.7 and I was diagnosed with Type 2. No family history of diabetes at all.

I have been overweight and had a horrible diet the whole time. Drank 2 litres of coke every day since I was a teen. Had too much fast food, and a carb fueled diet.

Something happened to my body in the last 18 months, and my diet came back to haunt me.

It was a blessing in disguise. I have totally changed my diet and am committed to solving this through hard work and a lifestyle change.

I would much rather make this change being diagnosed having Type 2, than having a heart attack, which does run in my family, my father having his first one at 42

Had Hypothirodism since age of 27...Retired at 65 was diagnosed with High Blood pressure and High Cholestaral..... after a couple of months they decided to cut my thyroxine down... I said if overdosing I would know about it so Doc sent me to endocrine specialist and he could find nothing wrong.... a month later I started having a very bad thirst and went back to the docs... they did another blood test and I got a phone call saying can you get to the doctors as sugar levels high.... Diabetes present so 65 when that was diagnosed unsure how long I had it for before that though
