Why is Symlin not available in the UK?

I'm puzzled as to why this is not being offered to patients in the UK.

Is there any explanation from the NHS (i.e. a health/side effect concern) or is it likely just a cost issue?

Yes, I've seen that link and understand that it's not been approved but don't understand why - it's been YEARS since it was first available in the US. Are UK clinical trials really still ongoing?
