hi everyone

my husband has recently been diagnosed with type one diabetes, he's doing well and has adapted brilliantly.

the only issue we are having is that he has started to get a burning pain in his arm.

can this be related to diabetes?
has anyone else had similar issues??

thanks in advance

Being newly diagnosed his blood sugar was probably elevated prior to being diagnosed , because of that he may have some residual effects. Possibly diabetic neuropathy . Many people claim that neuropathy only happens to people with long standing diabetes which is not always true.

In arm? oor starting from hand and feeling like acid running through veins to elbow?? Or in shoulders or elbows?

Carpal tunnel in hands can reach as far as elbow if severe.
All persons can get this.

Frozen shoulder is also a possibility? Or tennis elbow? Ir tapped nerve?

A fuller description is needed but unlikely to be linked solely to a diagnosis of diabetes.

Being diabetic actually increases the odds of all the above mentioned scenarios @donnellydogs

The OP says her husband has only just been diagnosed with Type 1.

Best thing is for hubby to go and see his GP for a diagnosis.

Best wishes RRB

Being just diagnosed does not mean complications due to diabetes are not possible.

I developed complications as a child . Within months of diagnosis.

I'm just trying to stay positive. There's so much to think/worry about. His blood sugars are being controlled now which is good and this burning sensation only started two or three days ago.

the pain is in his forearm, he can move his arm fine and its not stopping him from doing anything it's just uncomfortable really.

thanks for all of your help :) means a lot

Worth a check up at GP. I had what felt like acid in my right arm from hand to elbow on forearm. It was really bad carpal tunnel.. But there could be other reasons.
What I meant is that a lot of non diabetics get these problems.. Although diabetics do also seem to be prone to them too, it isn't purely a problem for diabetics only.

Its good that his blood sugars are being controlled. Well done.

There is a condition known as "Insulin Neuritis" which occurs when a diabetic suddenly comes under good glycaemic control following being uncontrolled. It typically affects the limbs. It is a form of Neuropathy, but the good news is that it is reversible.
