Not being able to eat as many chocolate digestives as I used to.
I think if you are trying to low carb and low fat then you are going to struggle to get energy from food. Low carb is normally accompanied by a higher than average fat intake. Have you looked at the Low Carb High Fat forum (LCHF)? If you try this, you'll need to retrain the body to get energy from fatty foods which may take a couple of weeks. Many report that this diet helps with weight loss!

If you really like only eating once a day then fine, but I would have thought you'd be better off with 2 or 3 smaller meals so that you get an energy boost when you need it at different times during the day.

You seem to have a lot to cope with and I wonder how you manage if you are so tired all the time. I guess you only eat one meal a day in order not to over eat and therefore lose weight but by doing so you are probably over eating at that meal as your body will be starved. It would be better and healthier to eat three meals of the right foods. You need to ditch carbohydrate ie: bread potatoes rice and pasta are main culprits. Have a look at past posts, the recipes and the low carb high fat diet, for health reasons I do low carb full fat and I lost weight, brought my colestorol down and am now at normal levels with everything. Use full fat milk, cheese and yogurts as the semi skimmed milk and low fat products contain sugar. There are lots of foods you can eat and lose weight. Bacon eggs cheese meats chicken lots of vegetables (friut is not good as it also contains sugar) cooked meats, high meat content sausages the list goes on. Daisy 1 will be along soon with good advice, ask as many questions as you wish there is always somebody here to advise you. It's all a bit scary and confusing when first diagnosed but you are at the best place for good advice and help ask ask ssk and if unsure ask again we have all been at that starting point and are where we are now through the people on this forum

Hi,

This thread is very useful for low carb beginners. http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/a-new-low-carb-guide-for-beginners.68695/

Do you have a particular reason for wanting a low fat diet?

Too many carbs, especially all at once in one meal, will make you tired, sleepy and fatigued. High blood sugars also have this effect.
I suggest, like the others above, that you change your eating routine and have 3 meals a day, as evenly spaced as possible. I assume your children have more than one meal, so catering for them and yourself at the same time shouldn't be any more difficult.

The low carb forum has lots of info, but ifyou cut carbs drastically all in one go you will feel a bit lethargic. I note you're trying to loose weight but low carb & high fat seems to work for weight loss. If you can try and eat two or three small snacks if you can't face a proper meal before your main meal. Bits of cheese wrapped in wafer thin ham are easy to prepare. Take it easy at the gym to start with & work up slowly. Good luck with it all

Your thyroid meds may be insufficient and it certainly sounds as if your dose of Levo does very little for your hypothyroid symptoms. I am on NDT instead and it's so much better than Levo. At least you could try and up the dose a bit. Usually we need to keep FT4 in the upper quarter of the range or possibly a bit over range, with FT3 in the upper half and TSH below 1or even suppressed to feel reasonably well.

Also check vitamin D. And vitamin B12, And iron, as in Hb and Ferritin.

Bad fillings in your teeth can also cause the same kind of fatigue as hypothyroidism.

And read http://www.dietdoctor.com/, it's brilliant.

The gp always tells me
So what are the results?

You see, if your thyroid meds are too low, even only a tiny bit too low, it can be absolutely impossible to lose weight. Do you get FT3 tested? FT4?

Furthermore, metformin can cause lack of B12 and the lower normal range is ridiculously low so if you B12 sits in the lower quarter of the range you can well be having symptoms of B12 deficiency.

And what about vitamin D? Have you had it tested? Many of us with autoimmune conditions need to keep vitamin D a fair bit above 100 nmol/l to feel well.

Same with Ferritin. I have friends who were told their Ferritin of 20 was perfectly normal. It isn't.
