Hello I have diabetes as well as my brother who is insulin dependent mine is oral when my brother walks he says its like walking on glass its awful to watch can anyone recommend the best type of shoes to make things easier please
Hi thanks for reply he has all the diabetic checks and doctor just gave him ampitrityline to help but it doesn't he does have to inject twice a day and his seems to be very hard to control thank youHi @shazsquat and welcome to the forum.
It sounds as though your brother is experiencing peripheral neuropathy. Other forum members have mentions how it feels like walking on glass. They have also reported that by getting their blood sugars under control that the pain is lessened and, in some cases, disappeared.
There are health checks that are essential for diabetics and these include having your feet checked.

I would recommend that he sees his G.P./DSN and explain the pain that he is in so that they can rule out any other possibilities..
If he needs any help in managing his diabetes then if he, or you on his behalf, ask questions on here and have a read around the forums you will see that there is plenty of support here and no question is considered silly..
I will tag @daisy1 to give you some basic information.
Thank you for your reply I guess your right they only do needle test and that don't really help will keep trying for himAll good advice here but your brother may have to push hard to get a proper examination through his surgery. My feet feel as though they are walking on cobbles, and although it doesn't bother me much, neither my GP nor the diabetes nurse will discuss it on the grounds that it falls outside the NHS requirements for treatment (as interpreted by my surgery, anyway).
The NHS just calls for a numbness estimate measured by a little plastic needle thing on a meter touched to the bottom of your toes.
Also some people on here have recommended special shoes and/or soles to help, so I hope your brother will get some relief at least.
Hi have you not had diagnosis for your feet,I have what sounds like same problem and my GP SENT ME TO MUSCOSKELETAL Dept in hospital where Inhad scan(same as pregnant ladies)and a couple of weeks later back to see Dr. at hospital diagnosed as Plantar Fibrematosis but was told was not unexpected has I have Dupytrens Syndrome as well,no operation on feet as not cost effective as problem returns more aggressively so that was the end of that as far as NHS concernedAll good advice here but your brother may have to push hard to get a proper examination through his surgery.
