Being sick 24/7
Hi, my name's vonbon1, not really new joined a couple of years ago, but after a few weeks couldn't get back in to the site. Finally back Yay. so when I joined back in 2013 was just diagnosed type 2. started on a low carb low fat diet. I lost 54lbs in the first 6 months. was soooo proud of myself. then we hit financial problems, money was so tight, just as everyone's has been for some time with the recession. however, we had no money for 6 weeks, sold a lot of my carboot stuff to get money for food, could barely manage to feed us on the tightest budget so my diet went out the window. my wieght flew back on & then some. so now I just hit 20 stones. nightmare. I have other health issues,Idiopathic intercranial hypertension, (water on the brain) some baaaaad some just a nuisance, some are effects of the diabetes. So here I am hoping to get some inspiration once again and hopefully help in some small way if I can.
My dr put me on metformin a few months back but due to IIH (memory loss) I couldn't take them right, in fact in all I took 3 tablets over a 5 month period. so I was recently put on Glucophage. 1 tablet a day, which I still haven't got my head around taking yet. While you may think I must be insane or totally stupid, I am niether. IIh causes severe memory loss, bad enough to forget my own name, where I live. what I'm doing I have list of things to do all over the house. note books in every handbag, I even have a dictaphone. but you can guarentee I forget what I'm needing or doing. just yesterday I had to go see the nurse, while I sat in the waiting room, I suddenly remembered I had an appointment for blood tests the next day, I went to the reception to ask what time my appointment was for, the receptionist told me it was for 9.30 am that very day, I had missed it. I don't do needles, not without a few days notice anyway. but there I was stuck had to have the bloods taken. my life seems to be one long round of reminders, forgetting and pain, there's lots of pain, Diabetes has given me so much more troubles, I have 5 different rashes all over the place, I have tried every lotion, potion and tablet the dr has given me, tried a myriad of things bought on line. nothing helps. I have to take a low grade antibiotic 4 times a day to keep the boils from taking over. As you can tell I'm having a right good time just now. lol but Here's where I need to be I need help big time. so I'm asking for your help.

Acceptance of health treatment claims that are not adequately supported by evidence. I dislike it when people sell ineffective and even harmful alternative health products to exploit the desperation of people with chronic illness.
Welcome back to the forum, I hope you find lots of support and information that is here.

I know someone with IIH, it's a tough condition to live with, for sure. Have you looked into whether you are entitled to any kind of disability support services, such as a support worker to visit you regularly and help you stay on track with things? Might also pay to ask the GP surgery to call and remind you of your appointments the day before, and on the day.

I'm not sure what the skin condition is but maybe you can get a referral to a dermatologist or infectious diseases specialist? If the rashes are fungal infections, then prescription cream along with using a hairdryer to thoroughly dry the area after a shower, might help. The hairdryer really helped me with a chronic infection under my "abdominal fold" or pot tummy. Boils and abscesses are a side effect of high blood glucose and getting your levels down should help with that. Your doctor might want to take samples and send them off to see what actual pathogens are involved, so they can choose the right antibiotics or other treatments.

I really feel for you, all this is a lot to deal with. Hang in there, we will do our best to help with suggestions for things to ask your doctor about and things you can do at home. Hugs.

Thanks catladyNZ, The boils have been ongoing even when my numbers were around 4 and 5's. was reffered to dermatology 9 months ago and so far I've had a letter telling me I'm on the waiting list. I went to see chiropadist, diabetic padiatrist. no luck, foot rashes have been before I was diagnosed although i had been diabetic for 2 years before anyone took any notice. just a waiting game as always. My gp is really good about me missing appointments it's seems to be the only thing they understand about IIH. I'll get to where I need to be at least with the diabetes, that is one thing I can control. with a lot of self control and a serious amount of ideas and help from you guys. thanks again xx

Good on you for being positive. I've been in the same situation with a waiting list... there's no harm in asking your GP to chase them up, to make sure there hasn't been some error and you fell off the list. It's a long shot but you never know. Maybe they bring people forward if their GP chases it up.

It seems likely that your blood glucose was high for a time before diagnosis, so it could have been contributing to the foot rashes. I found this article by a podiatrist - let me know if you need help with any of the medical terms.

Thanks hun, was very interesting, have taken some notes to show gp tomorrow. My numbers were in the 7's for over 2 years before it was picked up on, I was threatened with Diabetes all the time, I was tested regularly for diabetes but it was ignored. it took a locum to pick up on it. anyway that's in the past and this is now, at least I have something to show her tomorrow. might help to be honest a couple of the pictures of feet looked very similar to mine. Thanks again for your help, greatly appreciated. as I said to a new member yesterday this a great site. x
