Hi everyone,
I have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes (impaired glucose) and I am confused. The diabetes specialist (doctor) at the surgery ordered a blood test when I became sore with a horrible smell (despite several showers) when sweating. My first hbac1 was 49, the second was 46 and the most recent 47. This was just over a month ago and I was sent to the diabetes nurse who informed me about diet, low carbs etc and she wants to see me again in October. On one of my visits with another doctor from the practice I was given a glucose testing kit because I felt my blood sugars were going high when I ate certain foods, one for example was a treat a Chinese meal and 2 hours later I tested at 11.0 and felt nauseas.
I would like to mention at this point that my lowest reading has been between 5.5 and 7.5 before meals with 2 hour post meals being between 8.0 and 9.6.
I happened to mention to the doctor (diabetes specialist) that in the past (before being diagnosed) that after eating anything sweet i.e. chocolate, biscuits, I would start to shake and feel that I should eat something healthy. He shouted at me and said "you DO NOT have low blood sugars!! I thought back to a glucose tolerance test that was done a couple of years ago and remember them saying at that time that my blood sugars were too low rather than being high.
I have stuck to the low carbs diet hence the weight loss with the exception of the Chinese meal and a recent very naughty binge of chocolates and biscuits as I had a very bad and low day. On this day I started to shake and immediately did a test which was at 4.3, I rather stupidly ate a large trifle and still felt bad after 2 hours and I tested at 13.0.
I am wondering now whether I should have a glucose tolerance test as I am starting to become concerned as when my readings are on the higher side I get palpitations and feel nauseous.
TIA for any replies.
