Thrive-abetes; The Thrive with Type 1 Diabetes Conference is a one day conference for parents of children with type 1 diabetes and for adults living with type 1 diabetes. It takes place on Saturday, October 3rd 2015 in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, Ireland.

"Thrive-abetes" is a first-of-it's-kind event in Ireland - a conference organised by people with type 1 diabetes for people with type 1 diabetes!

What is Thrive-betes going to offer?

This Type 1 Diabetes conference will focus on the psychological impact of living with a chronic, lifelong illness. We aim to provide “Inspiration, Motivation and Information” to people living with type 1 diabetes, both parents of children with diabetes and adults at our conference.

We have invited speakers who are internationally renowned in the diabetes community, some of whom are living with type 1, and speakers who are nationally recognised as diabetes healthcare professionals. Speakers such as:
  • Kate & Isobel Fazakerley, Mum to Isobel who was diagnosed when she was two years old and is Chair of the Families with Diabetes National Network UK.
  • Helena Farrell, the founder of a diabetes self-management education (DSME) service called; Diabetes Insight. She is also a registered General Nurse, has a diploma in Psychotherapy from Institute of Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy in 2001, and has a MSc in Diabetes, University of Warwick, 2013.
  • Dr. Kevin Moore, Clinical Director of Naas Hospital and consultant endocrinologist in Tallaght Hospital, will be joining us at Thrive-abetes. Kevin has been making occasional guest appearances at the Type 1 Diabetes Support group meetings in Dublin for a number of years. I feel that it says a lot when a group keeps asking you to return.
  1. Dr. Clare McVicker is the Director of Research Advocacy, at the type 1 diabetes research charity, JDRF in the United Kingdom. JDRF is the world’s leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research and its vision is a world without type 1 diabetes.
  • Kevin McMahon is the co-author of "Sugar Surfing; How to manage type 1 diabetes in a modern world" with his long time friend Stephen W. Ponder, MD CDE, which was published in May of this year.

Tickets for Thrive-abetes cost €35 each, or €60 for two tickets (this includes the administration fee from Eventbrite.ie). Lunch and refreshments will be provided to all delegates.
