Yes, taking protein is fine for diabetics, as long as you have no other underlying problems (kidneys). However, important to note that a lot of 'protein tubs' have carbohydrates - so look for one that is pure protein.
Also, protein isn't a magical muscle builder. In order to 'grow muscle', a couple of things are required;
- Micro tears; basically lifting weights to overload muscles so that they repair and become bigger/stronger.
- Calorie surplus; Eating enough calories to gain muscle..
- Rest; Don't 'overtrain', less is more, quality over quantity.
- Your bodyfat needs to be low enough to see the muscle...If you want to see it (cuts/definition)- or you will just be bulky. Best to bulk up first, then reduce carbs/start cardio to get defined.
It is (more) difficult for a diabetic to bulk up, as it takes a lot of work to get insulin levels/BS under control - but it is achievable.
