Is it possible to have type 1.5 diabetes even if my antibody test results come back negative?

GAD antibody tests are not fully conclusive...............

You would probably need to interpret the results in conjunction with a C-Peptide test.

Going through this not knowing what type I am at the moment and at least once a day I start trying to make sense of what it could be whilst waiting for the next test or in my case a CT scan on my pancreas. I know things are not clear cut because my last visit to the GP resulted with him mentioning to me that diabetes isn't black & white and there are many shades in between and I could be one of those going on what tests I have had done but it would be up to the specialist at the hospital to decide what type I am. What I do know is that having been put purely on insulin straight away I haven't felt this good in a long time, not that I noticed how bad I had been feeling.

HHi. Yes, you need a c-peptide test as well. GAD can be negative if a long time has elapsed since first diagnosed. T1.5 can also result from other tpyes of pancreatic damage such as viruses.

I don't take any insulin, I control my BG levels with diet. I am told 90% of my insulin making beta cells are dead, but the last 10% are just sufficient to produce sufficient insulin when on a very low carb and high fat diet. I strongly believe beta cells die with high BG levels (over around 7.8), over the last two years I have generally managed to keep my BG levels under 7.8 and have seen very little beta cell loss, simply measured by hba1c and regulaR BG testing which is lower now than a year and two years ago.
