Hello, does anyone have a recipe for Christmas mince pies that are suitable for someone with diabetes please? I am having trouble finding anything. Thanks.

I love mince pies. Feels like torture not eating them. So I make sure I just have a carb free main and one for desert. Then it's only about 40g carb for whole meal. It's the best solution I've found.

@lely I was addicted to mince pies, eating 3-4 a day, which probably contributed to my T2. After diagnosis I only ate one if I walked at least 20,000 steps that day, as a reward. I have stopped eating them now as I'm only walking up to 15,000 steps in a day, but will probably have some over Christmas. I will probably try baking some myself using an almond flour pastry.

@Prem51. I have promised myself 6 spread between Dec 1st and Christmas night, when I watch Downton. But I will have carb free meals before.
Well not Christmas day of course. You have to have roasties.

I like the Sainsbury instore ones best. 2 packs of 4 for £1.50. I will be having one every day from 21 December to 28 December, including Christmas Day (and roasties). Well it is Christmas.:)

Sometimes scratching an itch is better than toughing it out. Have a mince pie. Just don't eat the whole box.

I checked last year, and found that mince pies average 30-40g carbs each.
That is roughly my carb quota for a day, all in one go.

I did find some mini ones in Tescos, about 20g ish, and got them, smothered one in clotted cream and sneaked it in at the end of a large, low carb meal. I remember being quite underwhelmed.

Definitely a case of reality being a disappointment.

Mr B ate the other 5.

So much for the itch. It's never as good as you remember.

I've always hated mince pies so giving them up was no hardship at all ;)

Nothing is better for causing indigestion though!

Bad inconsiderate drivers, burnt out carers who disrespect and treat older people in their care with contempt.
Gordon Bennett, I have got to see a dietician really quickly. I did go on a course once with the nurse specialist and the dietician talking about food and carbs. Now I haven't a clue what I should be eating and My wife makes the most delicious mince pies going. I could eat the lot. I have one or two when they come out of the oven before they get cold. Some Please put me in the right direction.

I always used tocrave Chinese food, but I agree it's never as nice as you want it to be, and you can feel the badness you ate for hours after. I do have a weakness for Indian food though. Naan breads in particular.

I was in Waitrose last Friday and they were selling John Lewis bakeware half price so I bought a tart baking tin. I'm going to try making my own mince pies using a sweetened almond/soya flour pastry. The low carb & sugar mincemeat looks a bit difficult to make, so I bought a jar of Belbake mincemeat in LIDL. It does have 63% carbs (of which 62% are sugars) per 100g, but that was lower than the other mincemeats they sell which were over 90%. I will mix in some chopped almonds and walnuts, and a generous slosh of brandy, and not put much mincemeat in each mincepie.
