    Worried Girlfriend

At 6.1 I would not be bothered. My last 3 random fasting readings were 5.9, 6.1 and a surprising for me 4.5.

    Statins - Times

Doctors are increasingly relying on large doses of cheap, non-branded medicines to control heart disease, despite concerns about their use. A rise in the prescribing of generic statins helped to cut total drug spending in England by £50 million last year. But GPs warned that the growing use of...

    pins and needles

I had the same problem and suffered it for 3 months until I raised it at a review. Probably not diabetes related was the opinion I was given. Four sessions with the Physio on my spine at the base of my neck did the job and I now have hands that are not numb for the first time since October...

Advice for the next 12 months

Simply avoid or significantly reduce the big 5 (pots, rice, bread, pasta, couscous) and keep a close eye on portion control. Don't cheat on anything!! I believe that you can become obsessive with testing - relax its not rocket science, control is largely common sense and a willingness to...

    HbA1c changes

IFCC-HbA1c (mmol/mol) = [DCCT-HbA1c (%)- 2.15] x 10.929 Why change? After the DCCT, a new standard specific for HbA1c was prepared by the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC). In future, manufacturers will supply IFCC standardised values for their...

To Low Carb or Not To???

By all means reduce the obvious high carbs - pasta, bread, rice and pots. Don't go daft on before and after testing - in my view too many unseen or unsuspected variables come into play. Reduce portion sizes. Relax. Remember, you are a person diagnosed/afflicted with diabetes - not a diabetic...

    Unbelievable!!

Do a Google and it gets absurd and amusingly wonderful. Some Charles Atlas type photographs available. Clip from a review: Mr. Vonderplanitz is reportedly a very polished speaker, and with his impressive physique (never works out, of course ;-) ) and commanding presence is very persuasive in...

Tight control of T2 is too expensive for the NHS

As member of a business analyst team with a warped sense of humour we used to refer to it as 'presentations kill'.

New Diabetic Targets for Type 2's

The problem might well be that the introductions for newly diagnosed diabetics are targeted at he lowest possible denominator. Perhaps the reality is that many diagnosed as diabetics are not as inquisitive as users of this site or are not overly concerned with the diagnosis. 'I be diabetic but...

    ace inhiabtors ?

The 'cough' lasted a couple of weeks. Upset the other half as it tended to occur during the night and was, apparently, more annoying than snoring. But ace inhibitors seems to have added values so take them!

    Fish

I shallow fry white fish, not battered, but dressed with an egg coating and breadcrumbs, in vegetable oil but make sure that it is drained on kitchen paper before serving. Oil is discarded after use. I deep fry white fish and squids with a light batter made with a small amount of flour and...

    Low carb diet concerns

Now there's a thing - a 'piece' with beef dripping! Or a tattie scone fried in beef dripping?

    ace inhiabtors ?

I take Ramipril although I have never had a problem with blood pressure. Being over 60 they say that at a particular dose level it significantly reduces the probability of heart attack and stroke. Most recent BP check was 116/70. No side effects are far as I can tell.

    Headaches

I made a choice of cheese rather than milk. Diet looks Ok. But what was the starting and current weights? Worth checking the blood pressure.

    Headaches

Headaches. Get back into the full fat cheese. I am sitting with the picante Gorgonzola with a large glass of deep red. No headaches - ever. That apart, can anyone explain why if women are so good at multi tasking they cannot have a headache and sex at the same time?

    Nuts nuts nuts

Worth trying either Wasabi coated peanuts or, better still, Wasabi coated peas. Availaabale from a Chinese Supermarket near you. Turn the tin upside down before removing any of the contents because some of the strongest Wasabi seems to get to the bottom and is exceedingly Wsabi!
