    Hunger

It can all seem a little daunting at first and there’s so much to learn. This forum can help with that, but you need to learn about how Diabetes affects you as we’re all different. You’ll get there and it will get easier to deal with as your knowledge grows. Before long you’ll be sharing with...

    Hunger

What Colin said resonated with me somewhat. I recall when I was first adjusting to lower blood sugars I would feel low when in actuality I wasn’t. Good luck with it all [emoji846]

    Increase Protein Intake

Hi I’ve used whey protein in the past, specifically myprotein “impact whey protein” I always found that to be fine and didn’t cause me any grief with blood sugar. However everyone is different and affected in different ways. I used the unflavoured one as this with lovely sounding flavours tend...

    Building muscle

Type 1 hasn’t stopped this guy from packing it on... https://diabeticmuscleandfitness.com/ Protein doesn’t give me a spike but I’ve seen people on here say it does for them. I’m still a honeymooner so maybe in time it will. I use unflavoured impact whey protein from my protein, only 4g of...

    DVLA

Hi Sam My apologies for not getting back to you sooner, I must admit I really don't know, I can really only speak of my own expreience and have no idea about policies outside of the UK. I guess in the event that your medicine is notifiable to the DVLA (yes this is the agency that deals with...

    LADA honeymoon period- advice needed

Hi @spage, sounds frustrating for you, can’t understand why Drs are recommending gliclazide or metformin as treatment for Type 1 (which you are if you are LADA). When people refer to the honeymoon period, that’s when you’re pancreas is still producing some of your own insulin. Your body hasn’t...

    LADA honeymoon period- advice needed

Hi, if you’re not ever going over 7.5 then they might not suggest insulin yet although, they’ll probably suggest you try to eat some carbs for a “balanced” diet, as Fido78 said at least you might have more choice with insulin. The point will be to get the right dose for what your body needs at...

    DVLA

Cheers JohnJ, I think the original post said Type 1 so I hadn’t considered gliclazide. But yes I think you’re right if you are on tablets you have to inform DVLA

    Newly diagnosed this morning

I’m afraid it won’t go away, I guess for now you’re in the honeymoon period where you’re still producing some insulin, but this will get less and less over time. You may have times in the coming months or years where you think “perhaps I haven’t got diabetes” I certainly did! I’m now injecting...

Newly Type 1 - Just a few questions

Hi Shane, Like you I developed Type 1 later in life and had a long "honeymoon period", I've only just started injecting insulin since September and only basal, so I'm still producing some insulin of my own, I don't eat a massive amount of carbs either so that helps with control. I guess I'm...

    Allergic to Insulin??

Hi All, Thought I'd do a quick update on my "allergic reactions". Just before Christmas I saw a drug allergy specialist in the hospital and they did skin prick tests and intradermal tests on both levimir and lantus at 10% concentration and then full strength. Guess what no reaction!! So despite...

    Is this normal?

Hi @Boozon, basal has been enough so far. I get the occasional spikes if I’ve overdone the carbs but must admit I’m checking fasting, pre meal and bed time BG which have all been lower on basal. So I guess I wouldn’t always pick up post meal spikes.

    Is this normal?

Hi @Boozon, yep now on basal although if you have a look at my other posts you’ll see I’m struggling due to allergies. On my 3rd type and now had to stop that as well as my reaction has got too bad. Seeing the drug allergy specialist next week, so hopefully some answers soon. Anyway my last...
